I'm looking for a better supplier of river rock. I've found prices from $95 to $120 nearby and as low as $65 a ton about 30 miles away. Just curious is anyone on this area has a better/cheaper supplier. I have a client that wants about 16 tone, but thinks the price is a little high.

Usually the cost of stone is the transportation of it. If you live near where it comes from it costs a little. If it has to be hauled it costs a lot.

How much should you be charged to haul a ten wheeler load 30 miles? Someone would have to load it, time to haul it, diesel fuel, driver's pay and everything else. Location is everything when it comes to heavy hauling.

Did you try the place up here in Toano? Pennisula Hardwood Mulch. They have a location down in Hampton too, I think.

We use Tidewater mulch and material, Superior stone, Enchanted Forest Nursery and Tri-City Contractors. Who was the dealer with the $65 per ton?

Pembroke Stone Mart. They're in Hampton and charge $240 for delivery, but that's for up to 14 tons. They have what they call river gravel for $45 a ton. Haven't seen it, but sounds llike 1"-3" river rock.

Don't especially like using Tidewater Mulch and Materials, they're owned by Basnight and well.......nevermind. I can usually get better prices elsewhere, but I'll check their stone prices. I'll check Tri-City as well.I usually get my stone from Lancaster Farms or Custom Stone depending upon where the work is.

Mulch I get from Butterfly Flowers if at all possible. Thanks for chimming in guys!

I forgot. Pennisula Hardwood mulch does have discount "contractors" prices compared to "off the street" prices.

Thanks Strawbridge. You get so used to using the same suppliers you forget who's out there.
