What do you use under the compactor?

1. What do you guys put under the compactor when you guys are compacting the pavers?

I'm reading that you guys purchase or have the option of putting a rubber mat under the compactor and run it over the pavers so it has a less chance of scuffing?

This seems like a [pretty good idea to me, but what kind of rubber mat are we talking about here? What several other options are available to this ?

2. What do you guys use to seal the pavers and when would you use it? Would you use the sealant right after you install the pavers? I heard that if you do, you will be sealing in the efflorence, should you wait 6 months before you go back and seal it?

You can also spread a thin layer of sand before you compact, that will also help to insure there is adequate sand there to go into the joints.

I've heard of everything from geotextile fabric to old carpet scraps as other options for compacting. You also don't want to run the compactor at full speed either.

Ahh, probably just half speed.

I was running it at full speed with sand spread throughout..

old carpet for pad, and sealed with Euco. Don't they teach you anything in that fancy school? lol
