What kind of compacter should I get for doing paver patio installs? I was renting them lastyear, but in the long run it'll be cheaper to shell out the money for one. I know their expensive but like I said itll be cheaper in the long run. Ive seen them anywhere from $1200-$3200.

Whats a good make and model to get, and why, and what features are good?

Thanks guys!!!

The Wacker 1550 is a good start. Not reversable though. 5.5 honda power

We have the Wacker 1550. I think the compaction rate is like 3,400# or something like that. This is great for smaller jobs, but you can only do 2" lifts with it. Also a great machine for on top of the pavers. We also use a large Bomag. Compaction on this bad boy is like 9,000#. We use this for larger jobs. We can get a good 6-7" per lift on this one.

We own the Wacker 1550 as well, perfect for walkways & small to medium patios.

We run the Wacker 1550 aw series here. Same as every one else only it has the water kit on it (nice feature). The water kit allows you to keep your base material damp as you compact you can also use to cold patch macadam areas.

We will be buying a Wacker 2540 in the next couple of weeks. At $3200, it is at the high end of your range. It is reversible and delivers 5600lbs centrifugal force.
