I was trying out the trailer brakes today (first time i've used these) and while i'm driving, if I press in the clutch and brake at the same time, the trailer wheels lock up. Its a Redline brake controller in a 92 chevy 2500, 5sp manual. if the clutch is not pressed in, the brakes work fine. As soon as I press in the clutch, they lock up. Doesn't matter if i'm in LL, 1, 2, 3, OD, or no gear at all. I'm assuming its a wiring problem. The controller came with the truck when I bought it. Any ideas?

Im not familar with it, Im wondering with the clutch pushed in and the brakes on it has an automatic lock to keep you from rolling back on a hill with a manual tranny, just a guess I really have no idea

Chuck the controller and go buy a Prodigy.

Ed, you stated that when you press the the clutch & brake in it locks up.
Does it do it if you only press the clutch in/or if you just depress the brake.
Did you ck the lights rt/lt running/stop lights when the truck is hooked to the trailer?

I Had the same problem my trailer was not wired the same as the truck.
Had to change the wireing on the trailer connector. Also,
I would check my connectors on the truck & trailer could have a loose wire.

Check sensitivity settings to see if you can get it to quit locking up. Then if it ws me i would try to determine if trailer or truck causing problem first. Easy way to do this is to find someone elses truck to pull trailer even small distance or o pull someone elses. I know this doen't fix the problem but eliminates some of the possibilities. If no problem with another persons truck pulling trailer i would say brake controller.

If I only press the clutch, the wheels do not lock up. If I only press the brake, it brakes fine. All the lights work correctly on the trailer. I'm going to check all the wiring as soon as I have a chance to check for any loose connections/shorts/etc.

check and see if the trailer is loosing ground connection to the truck, this will also cause the brakes to lock up. I got a negative battery cable bolted to the trailer tounge with a bolt welded to my hitch that I can quickley hook the ground directly from the trailer to the truck, eliminated the problem I was having.

I figured it out. 2 wires from the brake controller were actually running behind the clutch pedal, and every time the pedal was pressed it would hit the wires. The wire insulation was actually worn off from being hit so many times, and they would ground out whenever I pressed the clutch pedal.
