If this is true, at the rate Deere is going (Scag, Dane, now Chopper) we will have only one guy to purchase from. There going to monopolize the market lol!!

Huh? Is that kind of like saying that "one day Chevy trucks may be as good as Datsuns?" That's not to knock Buntons baecause they have always been a good mower. (I have one myself) But I never thought of DC as being that far under Buntons. I have heard they're slow on parts, though.

that certainly is a shocker!!! Maybe Deere will start making start mass producing them! And make them more known to the public! You guys know what I mean....they are not really tring to grow. At least that's the impression I get....

Well, you guys know how this kinda stuff works. TORO acquired eXmark a while back, yet they are not really inetfering with them at all. They seem to be letting them do their own thing. Just makin' the profit off 'em instead of the previous owners. Granted, they certainly will have the right to do whatever they want with the DC's, But typically they keep it the same. Why change something that is selling??? Now I think they will probably start mass producing them and hyping them up, but that's probably it. They may or may not change much about the design much, but who knows.....

Dixie Choppers aren't going to be as pretty, and maybe not as fast either anymore ;) !!!!

Sorry Eric, but I'll send you some green camo paint so you don't feel left out!!

If this is true and Deere is really buying up DC then you DC lovers better buy up a butt load now because once Deere gets it it won't be the same. Deere already has a mid-mount and they always feel they have the best thing made. I think it will be just one of those big company buying out the little guy to eliminate competition. We'll see but I doubt Deere will produce it. Just a thought.

Im not real high on deer. But they may have looked
at dixie as a good machine with potential for lg
volume sales that they can tap w there huge advertising
program. If thats the case it may be a smart move.
The way Eric and others talk it may have an edge
on competition. If so then service an dealer
availability wont be aproblem anymore.I expect
there may be a lot more dixies around here.
UNLESS THEY GO JOHN DEERE CRAZY W THE PRICE

If it is True, watch the price of a DC go through the roof.

Deere is good equipment, in my opinion, but they want about 10-25% more than any other comparable company.

Skookum,Dc has already priced themselves almost out of the market with their gas motors-the diesels are priced so high that no one is buying them, although they are good machines, the market will only pay so much for a 60" mower, and the quote I got when i first went to buy a 60" diesel was 12,500.Thats one of the reasons i bought the gas,I could have gotten an Exmark,Toro,or ransomes for over 1K less, but the Dixi dealer is only 4 miles away and no one had anything bad to say about theirs.I just figured you get what you pay for.

guntruck,
Deere has NOT bought Scag mowers! They have in fact purchased GreatDane mowers from Dane Scag, but not the Scag brand from Metalcraft of Mayville. They have also purchased McGinis(sp?)Farms,a semi nation wide landscaping nursery. They will probably start selling the GreatDane mowers at the nursery and force the local Deere dealer to do the warranty work on them, just like they do the Sabre and Scott's brand mowers they they manufacture for other retailers. As for Dixie Chopper,My source has not yet heard of such a move, but it sounds like Deere has decided to once again try out the commercial mower industry.

mercedes bought Chrysler, and a Dodge Neon is still a Dodge Peon...

I think all JD would do is supply needed capital, and collect the profits for its shareholders. Not necessarily change the product lineup.

I forgot to mention, the original Choppers were green.

I emailed a High Up guy at Dixie Chopper and I just got an email from him, this is all a bunch of BS. John Deere is NOT and I repeat NOT buying Dixie Chopper so you can all forget about this and put it to rest. :D :D :D

Denial, is not a pretty thing, Eric!!!!

Some reasons Deere may want to buy DC:

Bring DC's patents in to JD's house, and then intergrate with current JD products. ( RE: Toro X Exmark).

Because there is too damn many producers building mowers in the commercial market today. There will be more mergers, aqquistions, and failures.

JD needs more models for the super store concept model.

Manufacturing facilities in different areas of the country, lowering distribution costs.

JD parts may be higher in price, but they have THE best parts distribution network in any of the equipment manufacuring business's to day. No exceptions.

Arrrrr, matey's, there will be more blood spilled before it's all over with, we know there will be green and red, but who else??

No offense, but the Dixie Choppers look like a Frankenstein creation. Looks like they are made of spare parts. They must really be good mowers, though, cause a lot of the members here love them. I still think they would look better Lesco-green.

You can laugh at mine all you want. They are paid for and I got them to make me money, not to look at them. If they make me money, make the lawns look good and have a great longevity, who cares what they look like. :)

I may be a john deere fan, Eric is right. The choppers may not look good but they sure do cut good and thats all that counts.
