I'm wondering the same thing?
Is this a different machine from the one the does the "trenches" I see around the edges of beds?
If not, please give info on both machines.
THANX!

You change the cutting head for trenching or bed shaping.

I think they're the same thing, theres always a bunch of ads in all the mags about them. You can put different blades to get different thickness's and adjust the height so you can go deeper for small trenching work. I've heard good and bad about these machines. SOmeone that has used one can give more info I would think ;)!!
Sorry!

I'm as ignorant as the rest of you that's why I made an ignorant remark. I've never used one but always see them in the magazines. I suppose you would lay out your pattern and use it to outline then use a sod cutter or something more labor intensive to remove the grass then plant your plants.
Just a guess, I've seen Gary Allen use a sod cutter and a shovel to do his on HGTV----------and his little spray paint thing-a-ma-jigger.

All they do is leave that nice squared off defined look between the grass and the bed. Fairly easy to use and save alot of back breaking work.

Not sure, but I think they are the same, just different wording and yes you can change the blades to do different things.I have a brown and love it!Hey Homer,I'am no Gary Allen but I do have one of those spray paint thing-a-ma-jiggers,that and a garden hose for lay'en out new beds."Makes me look like I know what I'am doing"anyway

If it works for Gary then by golly it'll work fo me! I wonder how much he makes off those shows? And ain't it funny that they always have the softest dirt to dig in? He needs to come on up here and dig in this red clay. I still watch him though!
These machines are great. We have a trenchmaster and it saves a lot of back breaking work. We also use it to install black diamond edging. Will all the bits available you can do alot of things with it. We have a stump grinding bit, a 4" shaping bit, and a 3" redefining bit. The 4" is used for installing black diamond or natural edging and the 3" we use to redefine the natural edging. The company advertises 30' per minute. We usually get 20' to 30' and in really bad conditions (hard dry clay) maybe 5' per minute. But even that is a lot faster than a man and a shovel.

Homer,
I saw Gary Allen giving a bid around the corner from my house a few days ago.He was running around the yard with his `Gary-gun`,spraying nice curly lines for this lady.Guess he didn`t get the job..the lines are still there but he isn`t.

All of gary Allens jobs all turn out the same! All he uses is that damn aztec grass at every job!
We use a "Bedshaper" self propelled, it uses a rotating concaved notched disc blade that when edging a bed leaves the remaining sod strip virtually intact for easy clean-up.
We also use it for creating new beds, instead of following the outline of the beds layout we start on the inside of the proposed bed roughly 2 feet and make six cuts with the Bedshaper around the perimeter, each four inches from the last. Toss the six Strips of sod face down into the center of the bed, bring in a little topsoil and do the planting. When you add the mulch, you have a raised bed complete with a two foot wide, 4 1/2" deep mulch trap on the perimeter. In addition you save time because there is no debris to haul away. Wouldn't do without mine, a real labor/time saver! Brochure I got with the machine says you can edge up to 100 feet per minute. Probably ideal conditions, We usually get 40-80'/min. depending soil type.
here's their address: BedShaper Inc. 173 Green Acre Rd. Lititz, PA 17543 Tel: 800-837-2097.
They also make it as an attachment for WalkerMowers, Grasshopper,Toro Z Master, exmark explorer, Woodsmowin Machine, scag turf Runner.
Hope this helps..

I was looking at trading my walker bed shaper for a brown. How well does the stump grinder work?
