stone dust question

I have a dirt driveway (very long), and it is getting very rough, especially the center. Its packed down really hard, but rough material was used since there a some large stones in it. ( i didn't make the driveway).
My question is, can i topdress it with stone dust to smooth it out, and make it level? But will the stone dust run off the driveway after time?
From my few experiences with stone dust, it seemed to pack down very well.
any advice would be appreciated, thanks

depending on what area you are in will depend on what dust you should use limestone and dg work very welll in this situation. tamp and wet the surface will become hard
