Has anybody used gypsum for areas of lawns that accumulate water? The local golfcourse lawn mechanic says they use this in any area that water tends to pool. He states that it allows the ground to become dis -impacted.. Any thoughts?

Bull, only use gypsum if the soil calcium levels are low and the ph is high. If the ph is low then lime is a better choice for the calcium. Raising the calcium levels in the soil will help relief compaction somewhat but dont expect a full cure. Adding gypsum will make the ground more fluid and as a result the other neccesary nutrients will leach faster and the boundup harmful elements that are present in the soil will be released and can damage the turf.
