Thats the risk with buying a vehicle "as-is" from a dealer, there is usually some problem lurking. Bummer though, hope it turns around for you. What are the specs of the truck...miles? does it have a plow? transmission cooler? if so, expect tranny problems

104,000 miles

when I looked at the truck, talking to the dealer, he said 30day warranty. I remembered watching a dateline special (or one of those news shows) on how dealers like to add in things to the paperwork when purchasing a vehicle (surcharges, misc. crap, etc.) so I knew to give an "out the door" price. After all the wheeling and dealing, and him calling me back the next day on my offer, when it came paperwork time, he had slipped the "as is" in..... something told me to say something, but I thought what are the chances it would break down in 30 days. NOTE: when purchasing any vehicle, make the dealer sit with you on the paperwork. they'll come up with something to walk away while youre doin it, so to have it less likely for you to question it.

I always thought of myself as a person who is pretty good mechanically. You know, I 've helped my gearhead brother rebuild a couple of engines, and I can do alot of the work on my own vehicle. But this has me baffled....what in the hell is an input shaft?

SLANDER! Im goin to fight the dealership over this.

QUESTION: if I posted a sign on the truck after I get it back would this constitute slander?

PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AT (DEALERSHIP)
2 WEEKS LATER, NEEDS $2500 TRANSMISSION
ASK ME ABOUT IT.

Is it an auto or manual trans?

so you bought a 9 year old truck used and wanted a warranty on it? how much did you pay $2500 for the truck or is the tranny repair $2500?

Schit happens. I bought a used 2000 F-150 and within a month I had to put a new Jasper Tranny in it. $4,850 for the truck and another $2,505.65 for the tranny. But Jasper backs it up with a 100,000 mile warranty. I bought the extended warranty, which means they pay for a rental and a tow if I ever have a problem with it.

thats a good idea. might want to ask attorney about that first but it certainly is a way to get the dealers attention. negative publicity for that dealership will hurt business. they might pay for the tranny if ur lucky.

i am actually going to take a look at a 96 chevy 2500 this week. when i talked with the dealer over the phone he quoted me an extended warranty price of around $800 for a two year 24,000 mile. did u consider getting a warranty???
sorry for ur bad luck

I have a 92 chevy Z71 5.7 5spd. It has an input bearing problem, it squalls/chatters when you let the clutch out. i was quoted $700-1000 to fix it, depending on how many parts i need.

It seems that this was a common problem, along with bad rear-ends on these trucks in the early 90's.

The input shaft goes from the flywheel on the engine into the trans.
