View Full Version : Deck setting for stripes

I once heard you produce better stripes if the front of your mower deck is 1/4'' lower than the back of it. Is this true?
Anyone do this?

You should always make sure that the front of your mower is lower than the back. Somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 inch. If the front of your blade is angled up you are double cutting the grass, causing more wear on your belts and engine. With the front of the blade tip angled down you are cutting to that height as you move forward and the rear of the blade will not be touching any grass therefore speeding up the tip speed and reducing wear.

I use the factory setting right out of the manual on my BobCat, and it stripes nice. The mechanics behind the stripe is the grass is bent over. So what ever you can do to bend the grass over in one direction is what you want. Iv found that taking to much off makes a bad stripe.
If the grass is kind of high, and I raze the blades up so I don't take much off....man do I get a mean stripe.
