I have several people that are now wanting Lava Rock... Is it good to use? and do you install it just like you would mulch? It seems like it would damage plants and shrubs...... :help:

We've done a few lava rock jobs and had no problems with plants. The rocks will make it much harder to plant annuals, however. Here lava rock is very expensive ($120 per yard or so). It does look good though when your finished, just be sure to put weedblock fabric underneath to help prevent weeds.

I use what they call here,CoaCoa Lava it's got browns,light-drk-medium--tans,diff shades-dull blacks and dull reds in it $56.00yd retail like it much better than the red stuff.I will only use that if customer insists and can't talk them out of it.Lava is lightereasier to handle...but the downside is it is hard to keep clean by blowing it off. Also difficult to try to rake it clean.
