Passed out flyers over spring break...only 500.

We got 13 responses so far...thats over 2.5% response rate!

We did a few things different, wrote in estimates on the flyers, and included our website (www.kwlawnrangers.com) so i attribute our success to these things. Anybody else getting a good response like this?

Not even close! Sounds like you are doing the right thing. One thing to check on a response rate like that is to ensure you are not underpricing yourselves. I would not mind seeing your flyer if you could post it. Nice job on the web site too. Nice and simple!

I tried to post my flyer, but it says it is too big. Anyone know how I can get around this?

I also added some pics to the flyer, which I think definitely made them more catchy.

I had 2 of my guys pass out 3000 and Ive gotten over 45 calls. and 75% of those calls are for landscape work, and the rest for areation and cutting. Im glad they are for landscape, I hate cutting. Im just going to pass out like 1000 every month now, just so my company name stays in peoples heads.

Maybe people would rather see a price up front then to call up.
What did you do prewalk all of the houses before you put the flyer in the door?

Like your website but if I may make a few suggestions.

1. You have a picture of a street curb showing your straigh edging. The problem is that it shows weeds growing in the cracks of the street. I always spray those and then take a wee eater to remove them. It would make a much better picture.

2. Someone is mowing without a shirt. I think this is not very professional and would look much better with a shirt on.

Just my opinion.

We called it a "curbside estimate" and just glanced at the yard, front and back, and wrote in a price. I definitely think this helped our response because they don't really need to schedule an estimate. (Actually, for most of the calls we went and looked at the backyard and it ended up being $3-5 more than we quoted initially.)

Thanks for the advice on the website...we definitely need a few new pictures.

This year I sent out 3400 unaddressed admail fliers, about 1300 door hangers and 45 letters directly to local businesses in the area. So far my response has been just over 1% which is what I was counting on. I didn't get any of the businesses but one owner called me to price his home and I got that at $5200.00 per year. And even if my reponse rate is not great right now, people are seeing my name out there and some will remember when they do require my service.

One thing many have commented about my flier is that my picture is on it. Many people like to see who they will be dealing with before they call. (that is if you have an honest face, lol)

I like your web site. Well done. Just one question on a couple of the pictures. Do you guys really mow customers lawns without shirts on? Doesn't look very professional.

Man I would hate to be the kid who is walking behind that mower all day long in the schorching sun! No velky or sulky?

I like your guys' whole bussiness image. You guys look like the honest and trustworthy neighborhood teens just trying to make a name for yourselves.
Thats just the imppression I got from your website. I think that might give you guys a little bit of an edge over the competition.

All in all I see a very good bussiness with very low overhead. Keep it that way.

lawnranger, a word of advice on your nice looking site: get your web guy to reduce the file size on those pics. the home page is approx 1/4mb (250k) and is a nightmare to wait for it to load if on dial-up.

on a side note, my brother is a psu engineering grad.

I'm currently at 1.4 % "paid work" response rate, and I thought I was doing great! I'd say keep it going. How long did you plan on tagging for? We'll be going through June with our postcards. 30K more to go at least :dizzy:

The older guy in the pic is my dad, he's retired and helps us out when we're in a pinch. (For free of course :D ) The other two are friends who help us out strictly part-time, they didn't even make enough to have to pay taxes. We're actually looking for someone to work full time with us this season.

We have 20 mowing customers currently, which keeps us busy during school months, especially now since I am in college and my bro is working solo at home. We try to get most of our work in landscaping work, so that we can save it for the summer when we have the most time.

I see you are 19 as well EHO, PM me I'd like to hear what kind of set up you are using.

Hi Lawnranger44,

This is really excellent. We don't often see a nice group shot on a website homepage. Good for you!

You know, putting the price on the flyer would seem to weed out people. Seems to me if they call, they're ready to buy. No chance to sell which may be a good thing for a lot of guys who hate sales.

Ya, I hate selling, and putting rates on the flyers does help alot. People are genuinely afraid to call for prices because they either don't want to hear the sales pitches, or think the services are going to over priced.

When I go shopping, if I don't see prices on items I just skip them unless I really need them for something. Like I said above, when I have to listen to some long and lame sales pitch to justify the price, I'm just not interested.

So, putting prices on flyers seems to give the illusion of forthrightness to people, which encourages acceptance.
