My customer load allows me to be flexible. I base my start time on a few variables, but generally start between 8-9:00 am.

I consider the amount of dew on the ground, traffic conditions in the area I am starting with, afternoon/weekly weather forecast, am I on schedule or behind, who is dropping off or picking up my son from school, etc.

High heat and humidity of summer I will start about 7:30 to 8. If its a commercial I have been there before the sun came up. I hate doing commercials with all the cars around. Just one liability I don't want.

We do one of our Commercials at 4:45am in the summer. Residentials we start between 7 and 8am depending on the customer. I had one customer complain about a 7am start time once, just moved him around.

We usually try to get to our first lawn by 9:15am.
We like to get there earlier, but in the spring and fall there is just too much dew on the yards to cut too early.

Have you noticed sunrise was about 6:40? sure makes getting going early a LOT easier.
My storage facility opens at 7am - we have everything loaded & out the gate by 7:15 - smelling cut grass by 7:30.

I got yelled at by the neighbor of a house I was cutting one time. I think it was about 7:30am. I think we have a noise law here, I need to check. My commericals I start at first light. No complaints yet.

Thanks for all the responses.

We usually leave by 8:00 AM unless we know there is a bunch of bad weather coming. Then we'll start earlier.

We get going at 7:30 every day but I don't like the guys to start mowing residentials until at least 8:00. I think anything earlier is a little too inconsiderate if the houses are close together. I know I'd be pissed if I was still sleeping, had a little baby, etc. and the neighbor was mowing his yard 10 feet away from my window at 7:30 am. I guarantee we'd have words. But houses in this area are kinda crammed together. If it was a larger lot and the neighbors weren't too close, I could see starting earlier.

Since I work 3rd shift I'm off at 7:00AM and I hit my first lawn about 7:30AM. This customer told me she's up at 5:30AM every morning and I can start any time after that. I asked about her neighbors and she said don't worry about them. So I start when my customers give me the OK. Alot has to do with the DEW. If it's just TOO WET I'll wait til it dries off a bit. In all I think it really depends on your customers and what they WANT.

We start residentials no earlier than 8am and commercials 7am. On days that are too wet from either rain or dew I will go around to accounts to be mowed that day and get all the string trimming done. When it dries enough to began mowing all we have to do is mow, blow & go. It keeps our down time minimal and keeps us productive on wet mornings. This only works well if the routes are tight.

We have instructed our crews to get to the shop between 715 and 730am this year. And the trucks will be loaded and wont pull out until ten of 8.

We too have cut commercial accounts at all hours. We received a call one time when we had just returned to the shop(it was like 830/900). They forgot to tell us there was a major function the next day. The crew said they would do it by headlight for triple time. The contract agreed, so we took both trucks and some personal vehicles to light up the turf. The county sheriff drove by around 1130pm and saw only headlights down below in the gardens and couldnt figure out who was "partying" down there. He didnt stop us from cutting(just chalked it up as first for his eyes), and we vowed after that night never to cut after 8pm again.

8am, used to start earlier but would rather sleep a little longer, and figure we are better off being a little later as more time is allowed for the dew to dry.
