You want it on before soil temperatures reach 50 degrees. In central Minnesota I would get it down within the next two weeks.

Crabgrass germinates when soil temperatures reach 55 - 57 degrees for 3- 5 consecutive days. You want to time your application as late as possible because crabgrass will continue to germinate until the first hard freeze. I like to get mine down 1 week before expected germination dates. It should be followed with 1/2" water to get it into the soil. If the turf is thin, or bad shape, I would put down half of the a.i., with a follow up in 6 -8 weeks (depending on the label instructions). Another thought is to only apply around sidewalks, driveways and thin areas. This is usually the only problem areas. If your turf is thick and tush, The seed get no sun and can not germinate.
