I am new in the business and have not yet done a mulch installation. I measured a job last night and called with a price. I is a 12 yard job and I quoted $40 per yard. The total of $480 sounded kind of high but I went with it. She was amazed to say the least. It was way too high for her. Can any of you tell me what a decent rate is? I can buy the mulch for $15 per yard and can haul about 5 yards at a time. I am in central VA if it helps. I want to give her a fair price and it is in a nice neighborhood that I do not do any work in at this time. I would like to get more work there. Any advice would be appreciated.

I go around 70.00 on average. Depends on site conditions as well as prep work may make it higher.

I've had that a few times this year 1 was a 6 yrd job I charge 50.00/yrd + delivery I think the job with edging and weeding came out to be around $450.00 and the guy I thought was going to have a heart attack! He then said no thanks I'll get someone else, I said ok sir thank you for the opportunity. I drove by just out of curiosity and he had someone else do it all right mulch all over the driveway, mulch in the grass about 3-4 inches no edges, etc. I saw him again last week and asked him if he had found someone yet he said I sure did I asked him how much? He said he paid $265.00 for the whole job, I said wow thats a great deal! Mumbling on my way back to the truck "Dipsh_t it looked better before he touched it." payup

I get mulch at $28 per yard. I started my pricing at $55. I was getting quick replies of "YES!" so I raised my rates. I am at $80/yard delivered and installed. Still getting the "YES!" from customers, but don't want to press my luck I think $80 is just fine. From what I have learned just play with the numbers and see what the market will bare.

$50 per yard installed, up to 15 yards.
$45 per yard installed, after 16 yards or more.
This is for lawn contract customers only.
Otherwise add $5 to $10 per yard depending on the current condition of the beds.

Also $.75 a foot for lawn contracts with edged beds from last year'
$.85 a foot for lawn contracts with no edged beds from last year
$1 a foot for anybody else and I don't care what the beds look like.

I an charging 48"/yrd for natural and $60 / yrd for colored
that includes some bed prep like cleaning out the old edge to hold the new mulch
shaping new beds is extra.

remember a yard of mulch should cover 108 square feet at 3 inches deep or 81 sq ft at 4 in.

Dag gum!

I need to raise my mulch prices.

I've been charging $45 for 10 yds and under. $40 for 10 yds and above.

I only hand install 10 yds and under anything above 10 yards I have blown in.

You can only get what your area will pay, but from the look of things, your area will easily accept 55-75/ yard. However, if you think a nice job will get you more work in the area, sometimes it is worth making a little less.

We've been charging $84/cubic yard this spring, which includes weed cleanout and edging. I haven't seen a bed yet that didn't need some kind of maintenance. Never give a customer a per-yard price. Just give them the cost of the total job.

Get mulch at cost of $18.00 yd, installed I charge $50.00. No complaints.
Even had one complex pay for 54yds delivered themselves. I rented a bobcat, charged the same rate and had job done in 6 hrs, 4 laborers and 1 bobcat operator. $950.00 profit.
