There was a lot of power in the air when Ernie Irvin crashed and we should all drop a prayer for Dale Sr. You don't find me overly serious very often but this is one of those times.

Dale always had a look in his eyes whenever he spoke about his best friend Neil Bonnett and I suspect he had a hole in his heart there too. He's up there right now and will be forever out in the woods bench racing and hunting with his friend. Someone had to go and help Adam (Petty) grow up too.
My apologies I'm more than a little bit emotional right now.
God care for this fallen hero.

Well... we're all here to help each other out. I don't know how everyone else feels, but if it's anything like I feel, the more we know, the better we'll feel.
I don't consider myself a HUGE race fan, but with Dale's passing, I feel like I've lost someone close to me. I never met him, but I grew up hearing his name and his legend. You think of racing, you think of Dale Earnhardt.
There's a lot of information on http://www.nascar.com for those who want it. I think I've watched the crash video about 20-times... and I just can't believe it. There's just so much irony: 1/2-mile from the checkerd flag, son and Michael Waltrip in front of him, blocking for the two of them, he made it 199 laps before meeting his maker, the prayer before the race. Just too strange...

Not trying to beat this one up or anything, but I got this e-mail from a freind of mine today, and I figured I share it. It makes sense...
There was a man that died and went to Heaven.
When the man got to Heaven, he was being shown around by Jesus. Jesus told the man he could do anything we wanted in Heaven. The man was a huge NASCAR fan, and said that he would love to race the perfect stock car on Heaven's perfect track. Jesus put his arm around he man and said come with me. Jesus showed the man an orange and white Ford Thunderbird bearing the number 7. The man ecstatic for he knew that was the chariot once raced by Alan Kulwicki.
Then Jesus showed the man a number 28 black and orange car once piloted by the late Davy Allison. The man was so excited to see that Heaven had so much to offer him.
It was then that the man peered into the mist and saw a black Chevrolet with a white number 3 on the side. The man said, "No, not Dale Earnhardt. Please tell me God didn't take the Intimidator."
Jesus placed one hand on the man's shoulder and said, "SHHHH, at ease my son, that is God's car"...
That made it a little easier on me.

Well someone has to be the driver for an owner of that caliber.
As I'm sure you feel Tim I hope he's up there with the best team, the fastest pit stops and his fair share of the wins among all of the legends that have preceded him to that lofty place. If there is a heaven just for great race car drivers there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that there is another great one just arrived and most likely in a hurry to get those darn yellow stripes off his back bumper.
No disrespect, but the man lived and breathed racing, and I hope he is at peace where ever he is starting that engine.

A Broken Seat Belt!!!!
Nascar reported that a seat belt in the Intimidators car was found to be broken.
Doctors have said that it is likely Dale Earnhardt could have survived the accident if the seat bealt was not broken.
WHAT A DAMN SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more. I made me mad when I heard on CNN this morning that that is what happened. Just goes to show that you can take nothing, I mean nothing for granted. With the high level of RCR I have no doubt in my mind that every thing in that car was brand new for this season. Within reason of course but you would feel that they would replace things like the belts at the start of a new season.
Just my opinion

Well, on a good note, RCR said that they're not going to run the Black #3 car again. It's going to be placed into a moritorium for a year, and then they're gonna take it from there. They said that they may eventually run a #3, but it won't be a black GM Goodwrench car.
-Tim
P.S. Anyone notice how amazingly similar Dale Jr's crash at the rock was to Dale Sr's at Daytona??? That was pretty creepy. I'm sure everyone who saw that crash on the first lap had to pick their jaw up off the floor...

It seems that the hand of the Master was at the controls of Parks car at the Rock yesterday...
DEI and the memory of the Intimidator deserve the honor.
I feel the RCR should at the end of the year long moratorium, give Dale Jr. and DEI the #3 car and allow them to run it forever. if Little E wants to run a Black 3 then I think he has the right to.
I mean Dale ran his father's number, so little E should have the same honor.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but lets all remember, the car owner owns the number.......not the drivers. The car owner can do whatever he pleases with it. Dale Junior runs #8 in memory of his grandfather, Ralph Lee Earnhardt, and probably always will. RCR will run the #3 next year, and every year after that. I think that's the way Dale would want it. He and Childress talked about what would happen if either of them passed.......I bet the #3 never came up in any of those conversations, because it was not a concern.
Little E needs to be his own dog.......not run his dads car.

Mike H.
You make a lot of good points. The moratorium is a good and respectful thing to do with the number 3. Dale never gave any quarter and never took any, he just raced his heart out all of the time.
Nascar does not have a policy of retiring car numbers, that being fact as reported by both Nascar and RCR, Dale never came across as the kind of driver who asked for any special treatment.
RCR has stated that they will run the number 3 again but never in a black and silver color scheme. Nascar has a rule that a car number must be entered a minimum of 5 (five) time a season. They have waived this rule in the #3 situation for this year and I'm sure that we all appreciate this...but the racing will go on and the number 3 will have to be used or RCR will forfeit the rights to it.
Do not take all of this as hard facts, they are just how I understand what I've heard and read so far.

Yes as hard as it may seem life goes on.
I believe Dale would want RCR to run the number. He was very devoted to RCR,I mean this guy could have raced for himself, but he didn't.He was committed to RCR,now that is a true friendship. Not worrying about the almighty dollar. That is the difference in Nascar a true family sport.
I said before Jr. will make his own way in Nascar because he had a pretty good teacher, along with the others at DEI.
Pretty good record so far this year for DEI.
You know you did your job as a boss, when you can leave and the team still gets the job done!
