On A Dump Truck You have to engage the PTO before the hydrolics operate the dump . on a mower I thinkit works in combination with the clutch when you engage the blades, and when you hook up a snowblower, sweeper ect.
I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong.

There are PTO's on a lot of equipment. The first I was ever around was on the farm on a farm tractor. The old tractors had a PTO like on a dump truck. You had to push the clutch in and then engage the PTO, but now they are all what they call Live PTO's.

Vibe Ray, PTO is for Power Take Off and on farm tractors, utility tractors and even garden tractors, they are used to run equipment behind the tractor mainly, especially on farm tractors. Examples, balers, older combines, silage cutters, mowers, ect.

On commercial mowers, it engages the mower deck.
