Hi, I went to what I thought was a regular clean and mulch job, so I drove by, estimated the beds. Got home and gave the guy my estimate and he says "oh, no, I just need one bed completely cleared out, and thats all.

Well, fortunately I have a pic from my camera when I got home. And Im posting it to see what would be the going rate for this size job. I think that tallest bush is about 5 foot. And everything is in the pic.

What does "cleared out" mean...............
Removing all plants and shrubs?

I would quote the guy on a completely new installed bed. It will show him you are creative and care about what his landscape looks like.

I think those overgrown shrubs are pretty damned ugly!

He wants everything in the bed gone (plants, shrubs, ect.) He is going to plant and mulch himself he says.

Should I dig chop then pull with pickup, or just pull them or should I just dig them out?

I would just carefully rip them out keeping an eye out for long roots that may be under the grass so you don't rip the turf. DO you have to take them with you? I would say $125. $175 if you have to take them. Do you have to do anything to the soil afterwords like remove any remaining roots or level it out?

he just wants them out. If there is a little root system underground, then I dont have to worry about it. Would a pickup pull them out, or should I chop away at the roots first?

You need to determine exactly WHAT the expectations are. If the customer only needs the stumps cut to ground level then it would be chearper then pulling up the roots.

Well, I got to meat with him tommorow. I'll just tell him 175 for pulling and hauling away, but if he rather save a buck then Ill cut to ground level and charge him $100 +25 for hauling away.

I'd be hooking up a chain and step on the gas...............

You could probably pull those out in about 10 minutes with a chain and truck. It will probably take you more time to get under there and wrap the chain around the base of the shrubs.

And wouldn't it be better to dig and chop at the roots first?

You could but judging by the picture most of it should pull relatively easily.

I don't think you need to bother. Those will come right out.
