Today was the first day back cutting grass. We cut till 2 and then I went to roll one of the last lawns left to roll. I was well over half done when I got too close to the pond and the roller slipped in. The pond gets deep quick . I hit the brakes and the roller turned the tractor around and pulled it in I jumped off as the back tires went in the water.

The roller is five feet wide and full of cement. Its gotta be close to a ton.

I called the boss. It took me a minute to get him to believe me. He came out and took me home to grab some shorts and a towel. We thought I had to dive in but we were able to get the chain around the bumper without me getting wet. We grabbed the versatile, drove it the 5km to the pond and pulled the kubota out.

The boss empty'd the fluids and got it started but he says its really smokin. The homeowner who is a police officer finished the rollin but stayed away from the pond.

I guess my day was pretty good. :)

It sucks when things like that happen.

If I havent learned anything else, it is to stay about 12 feet from the edge of a pond or lake, just seems like the water will pull you right on in there

MY day was great by comparison. I would cry. Submersion is a bad thing.

Did you try pulling out with your truck? Probably to heavy to work, but maybe worth a try.

The versatile pulled the tractor and roller no problem. The tractors still blowin white smoke. The boss is thinking about what to do he might bring it to the dealer and get him to check it out. I didn't turn it off as I jumped so it was revvin at 1800rpm. He was realitivly calm today. He brought it up a few times but only in jokes. I'm sure he'll let me know what it cost him and I let ya's know. Hope it's not much. I feel really bad but sh^t happenns. The third day I was working for him he put the auger through a telephone line. Not a single one but one of those big ones that carries a bunch. That cost him almost $700. That winter he hit a car while plowing snow. $600 that time. I don't think I would have been as calm as he was.

It sucks now but a while from now you will be telling that story to anybody that will listen. Hope today went better.

whatever won't kill ya will make ya tuffer.

would you undo the engine, disassemble, dry it out, soak it in a 30 gallon barrel of oil a few days and then trichloroethane rinse/ spray it before reassembly with new gaskets, seals, lines, and wires ?

its part pf how we used to recondition power station transformers at westinghouse.
or ya think new engine be better way to go? cost 'em out yet ?

The kubota's engine is on the dealers floor in pieces. New rings and a connecting rod. Also the cylinder wall is scored. New holland dealer is fixing it and hopes to keep it around 4 grand. Deductible is $1000. I feel pretty bad . If I worked for a big company I would'nt feel so sh#tty but it's just me and him. I know that it was an accident but I feel responsible. I think I should be paying some of the deductible but everyone I talk to says that I should'nt.

We got the tractor back and the final price was $5700. I don't think I'll be rolling around ponds for awile. The boss still seems to have a good attitude about it. He's not angry but I do get to hear about it daily.
