View Full Version : EBay Purchases?

Does anyone have experience purchasing equipment on EBay? New or Used, Good or bad experience?
We have seen heaps of junk (literally!) offered for sale, like a bunch of old, rusty Wheel Horse mower decks in a pile.
We are thinking about purchasing an Echo hedge trimmer. We see quite a few offered for sale all the time.
Talk to you soon!

I have had good luck. I bought a used echo backpack, and a used little wonder 11hp blower. Both arrived as described. Make sure to ask questions.
If buying new stuff from ebay from a dealer, make sure to check your local dealers. I have found that sometimes my local dealer can give me a better deal.

I've bought so much stuff of E-bay. A 52" Walk Behind, Toro Z Master, 48" Bob Cat Walk-Behind. All of them have worked out great. I've also bought a couple books and smaller things from e-bay before too. Always had good luck.

I've bought and sold equipment on eBay. Just ask questions and check out the feedback. Ask them for their phone number and call.

I bought a trimmer from someone who had 99% positive feedback, got a sthil BP blower - runs great. Some other things....but the trimmer soured me to buying anything else. it crapped out on me after 3 months of work...paid for itself, I guess, but never again from that guy.

I've had good luck in purchasing equipment from ebay. I'd recommend taking a look at any major piece of equipment before a purchase.

Just received a brand new Robin string trimmer and stick edger yesterday! :)
In the past I've also bought:
2 Poulan Pro backpack blowers
1 barely used Redmax 7001 bp blower
1 new Husqvarna stick edger
1 new Echo hedge trimmer
1 barely used Tanaka hedge trimmer
1 used Jrco dethatcher
1 new Poulan Pro chainsaw
string trimmer heads
As well as several other things that are not necessarily business related (welder, digital camera, microwave, etc., etc.)
All good experiences so far. Saved quite a bit of money.
The only thing I bought that was a problem, was a mulch kit for one of my mowers that turned out not to fit my model. Nobodies fault, seller said he wasn't sure, and I gambled and lost.

I've made several...several eBay purchases for a variety of items including for my lawn care business. I buy John Deere items, Echo and have yet to have a bad experience. Though I am aware that my time will come. I believe the key is making yourself aware of the seller's history and feedback for sure.

I bought a heater online during the winter and got screwed, it was a piece of junk, I got my money back threw paypal, but the guy left me negative feedback which hurt since i only have 20 feedback so I have like 95% now. I only buy new stuff or non mechanical used parts (in other words stuff that wont get here and be broke)

I know a guy who furnished his whole company walkbehinds, bobcat etc. off of ebay.
Me persosonally didn't do too bad.
I get a lot of commercial lawn equipment off of ebay. It can be additive. Great way to cut cost and build up your equity in you company.:weightlifter:

Well after reading all the post, at least now I know who all has been out bidding me on all the auctions on ebay!!! LOL
Bought a Sthil concrete saw, fair price not excessively low. Took it to my dealer and he informed me it was reported stolen. I worked with the local law enforcement agencies where the saw was stolen, provided return address (nothing like a really smart thief) sent the saw back to the police for evidence. he last email I got was that the police hooked him up, charged him with theft and tunred him over to feds for wire/mail fraud since it was shipped out of state to me. Paypal refunded my money.
I'd be extremely careful of the highly desirable hand held equipment. Just make sure everything is kosher. This sellers feedback was great, been on EBay for a while selling equipment. I guess I was the first to take a piece of equipment back to a dealer that was reported stolen through the Stihl system. On hand helds I would ask for the serial number and then have my dealer run the number.

I have bought and sold lots of things on E-bay. My experiences have been almost all positive. The truck I drive was purchased via E-bay even though I had never actually seen it. It was still under factory warranty and had only 20k miles so I bought it. No regrets.
Two years ago I sold a Redmax EB7001 that I had only used 3 or 4 times. Someone got themselves a good deal.
