I'm not real familiar with the decks........What's the depth of the deck?
5 1/2 inches?

The 23 horse 60" Lazers run pretty well with the Ultracut deck (5 1/2" depth) but at times could use more.
The 23 horse on the Exmark Trivantage decks on the Lazer HP's are a little under powered because the deck chokes up(5" depth)

Bottom line........The deck will decide..........

YEP, you should get at least 25HP on a 60". The price is right because of that 23 probably so most folks have passed on it.

I'd buy the 27 Kohler.

I would spend a little extra and get the 27 koh. We use toro and the decks are pretty deep so more hp will help in the thick stuff.

I think it depends on what type of grass you primarily cut. If you cut mainly centepede and thin type grasses, then it will be fine. I have found that those extra 4 HP come in handy for thick fescue lawns.

I have the Toro Z with the 52" turboforce deck and 19hp kawasaki....I havent found a situtation yet that it felt underpowered. Wet, tall grass does well on the "a" setting on the deck....everything else gets cut with the "c" setting.

I have the 60" turbo force with 27 hp kohler. Get the 27 for faster cutting speeds. I don't think you can bog this machine down... Its a beast.

That's not enough power.

I knew a guy who had a 60" Toro Z Master with a 23 Kaw and it ran great,I drove it a couple of times to.It worked great in tall grass,on hills, and every where he took it.I think it's fine for normal grass, but if you could get the bigger engine, but i think it's fine. :D

My Cousin Has A 23 Kohler Motor On The 62 Inch Sfs Deck Toro
No Problems Cutting Wet Grass Fast. Strong Motor
Last Week I Demoed A 23kohler 60inch Turbo Force Mower
Great Cut Plenty Of Power
I Ended Up Buying A 25 Horse Kawasaki 60 Inch Turbo Force Deck
Just A Little More Difference In Power Not Really Needed
I Raced The 23 Kohler Against The 25 Kawasaki Through 2 Foot Tall Grass. The 25 Won So I Bought It. But The The 23 Is Plenty For That Toro. Great Deck!

Plenty? I think not. 27 hp is plenty.

You are getting a good deal on the 23 because most people pass it up and get the 27...

Brevard County School board has bought 3 of the smaller engine machines and say they are doing great. They cut mainly bahia, though.

Well, sometimes dealers will 'fudge' a little about the model year of a mower.
I never go by what they say anymore.
I identify the model year by the codes or specific features.

Just call and ask to be sure that mower he still has in the crate is the 500 series that has the Turbo Force Deck. (27hp 60" = Z557 specifically) If not it would be the older 200 series with the 62" SFS deck.
