Contacting customers?

Do any of you guys call or write your customers before the start of the season or do you just greet them when you do their property?

I always send them a letter maybe a month or so before I plan on being out to start. I usually start it something like "I currently have you on my calender....if my calender differs from yours please contact me." Then I'll solicit new work such as mulching for customers I may have picked up later in the season last year that I didn't get the chance to perform the service for.
