I had a guy call today wanting his lawn re-seeded. He said over the last few years the lawn has died. Also he said he thinks he fert. to much (not sure if that meant both years or just the first year or what). Should I tell him he needs a soil test just to find out what might be wrong? If he says okay how much do you guys charge for something like this? If he says no should I do it anyways and make sure he knows that the new grass might die too or just walk away? Any tips or ideas would help alot. Thanks

here in canada is about 35 for soil test. This a good way to go if since few years grass never seems to grow..Cheaper than doing rhe same wrong job year after year. Be professional and get the answer to his problem.

1. aeration
2.spread 1 yard of compost/1000-1500' of grass (adjust ph if necessary)
3.dethatching (it's break the core and fill the hole with the compost
4 raking

and now overseed i fertilize as you soil test recomand (don't forget compost have a lot of nutriments).

adequate irrigation and you will get a successful longlasting greengrass.
