Start you own company ??? To be your own boss ? To make the big money like the guy you worked for does ? Do what you want when you want ? Prove some one wrong ? Or did you do it because you like it love it like seeing your work ? Do it for the passion not the money ? Make a better life for you and your family ? So your kids never have to want and get to go to a good college ? Or did you do it for beer money walking around cash ???? What does your company mean to you ???

I did it because I got sick and tired of the bowlshed.

It is, in my own sick way, revenge.

I did it to get chicks, and it works. Seriously. But the novelty of that has worn off and now I actually enjoy owning and operating my own business.

I did it b/c I can make a lot more money than most of my college aged friends. A lot of them are looking for jobs now that it is summer and these jobs are paying around 7-10 bucks per hour. When I hear them say stuff like " I worked 6 hours today and made 40 something bucks" I just know why I love my job so much. Plus I work when I wanna work....not having a boss is great

I did because, i made a lot of people, a lot of money, now i make enough to live a very comfortable lifestyle with many luxuries, spend valuable time with my kids & as a family we have leaned that earning big bucks wont always make you happy, yet, it may make you look happy to others.

At the end of the day!

You cant take it with you, so enjoy it before you die!

Thats what i have leant in the past 36 years....

For me, I had already spent about 12yrs workin for some of the larger nationals, "IPM" just came out, Sold like a charm, but even bein able to work along side a "Plant Pathologist, Entomologist & an Agronimist" bigger companies werent able to really address the "health Concerns" of the general public[ there customers].......I went "Organic", was a "Ground Breaker", truely enjoy doin what I do, and the income exceeds most of my sisters who have several college degrees?.......Its a "Good Life"....... :)

At first I did it so that I could be my own boss. I quickly found out that everybody has a 'boss' of sorts. If fact, some customers can be far more overbearing than any of the supervisors that I had in the past. At least this way, I can walk away from one job and head straight to the next without a stop at the unemployment office. :cool2:

I have often thought about it but never did anything about it until I lost my job. So far so good. :)

I can so relate to what you are saying...

My story is to long for this forum, but I was laid off from this skilled trades.
So I dusted off my lawn care skills and extended a big throbbing middle finger to my old employer.

Now I am my own boss, and I work on my terms. I have hundreds of clients and I am more secure now then ever.

I had never even considered going into the tree biz. Working in the industry was just a way to pay the bills while I was in university. When I first got married and was soon to have our first kid I decided to take a semester off and work to save a bit of $$$. I was having a really hard time finding a job as it was early winter and there just aren't many jobs around here at that time. Out of desperation for some cash I decided to go knock on some doors and get some trees to prune for some grocery money. I picked up a couple of jobs that day and borrowed $300 from my dad to by my first piece of **** Craftsman chainsaw. I soon realized that not only did I really enjoy this biz (I already knew that) but I could make a lot of cash doing it and things just sort of very quickly snowballed into a full time career............

So glad I'm not stuck in an office like most of friends from university are. Oh yeah, the fact I make more $$$ than most of them isn't a bad little perk either.

I did it because I wanted to free myself from the corporate world. It is working. Also I love cutting grass and working outside.
