I'm bidding on 2 new mulch beds....kinda of goofy shaped ones...i measured the wide side, then the narrow side......made an average and figured the mulch 2" deep.

i came up with 60 yards.......any math wiz want to tell me how far i'm off?

here's the circumference of both beds.

222'
163'

Circumference????

Is it 163' x 222'?????

That comes out to 36,000 sq. ft.

60 yards won't even come close............

Maybe your numbers are wrong????

Grass Cake,
Homeowners love when you make a mistake in estimating mulch job. Remember they have called other people to give them estimates and are waiting for the lowest bidder to do the job.
Take the right dimensions and there are so many mulch dealers in your area with mulch calculator programs to figure this out.
Be careful you can run a huge loss on mulch jobs.

76' x 40'...bed 1
55' x 30'...bed 2

that should have been diameter....and i thiink that measurement is useless. ;)

i used a mulch calculator.......but 60 yards seem like alot for the area i'm looking at

It is a new bed though.

I'm just double checking before i turn over the estimate.

it's 385' of new edging in the deal. but i'm ok with .80 per ft. for that.

bed 1=3040sqft
bed 2=1650sqft
total 4690sqft @2" = 29 cubic yards

Can you get by with 2" depth on new beds?

44 yards at 3", 58 yards at 4"

I'm trying to squeeze it.(i'm confident i'll get 30+ yards scooped in at the yard))

Anything will look gorgeous compared to the plastic and 5 shovels of sawdust that's there now.

sorry......i confuse myself

bed 1... 76 x 40
bed 2....55 x 30

bed 1 does have a egg shape. I measured the long side..then the short side.....added them together and divided by 2 for an average...........still with me?...hehe

29 yards sounds right for 2", I usually go for 3" which would be 47 yards. If you are interested I found a guy that will do mulch for $30 a yard that works out of Norcross. He is doing his first job for me Friday so I cant tell you how good he is yet. If you want his info I can get it for you. I hate doing mulch, I don't make enough money on it.
