I have been neglecting my weedeaters and stick edger as far as preventive maint. goes. I was wondering what you all did to keep the stix running smooth. (particularly greasing them)
I have 2 Shindaiwa T260's
and a Shindaiwa stick edger.
thanks
It never hurts to put grease in shaft any where
yours has access points. The most effective
thig Ive found isas follows. Use 90 or above
gas. I really like stihl 50-1 as my machines
are different makes and all crank by third
easy pull. This way your recoil last as long
as the machine,as you never have to pull it hard.
Another thing is the exhaust may need pulling
and cleaning. Again stihl and high octane
almost eliminates gunk buildup at the exhaust.
Hope these are of some help to you.

Hunter:
To grease a Shindaiwa, unscrew and take the head off, pull the clip that holds everything on the spline shaft. Now pull the plug out of the gear box and pump grease in the hole and let the old grease come out by the splines until you see nice clean grease. This is called changing the grease.
If it isn't running good at full RPM's, pull the muffler off and clean out the carbon that builds up by the exhaust port. Clean the spark arrester if it has one and you should be ready to run them.
A word of caution. Before you grease your gearbox head, make sure you take out the sleeve bearing (I think thats what its called). It on the center of the splined shaft. Otherwise the grease will push it out, and if you do it over a trash can, you might not even know that it fell out.
Also, I'd just take those spark arrestor screens off.
