ok heres some background, im 16 and mow about 6 or 7 yards a week with a friend and make around 140-150 a week which is almost completely saved to pay off a car and save for college and everything was going great until my piece of s*** weedeater goes out. It had been steadily dieing for about a month and 2 days ago i couldnt start it. my dad and i worked on it for about an hour and we pulled it so many times the chord broke. the worst part is i bought it brand new less than a year ago. bottom line, i need a quality weedeater with a straightshaft and can easily be used as a edger for under 150 that will never fail, yall must have some advice so help me please

later from atx

There is no weedeater that will never fail. You won't even get a good one for 150$ and under. Go up over 200$ and you will get a decent one

Wow, you remind me of the guy on the homeowner forum a year or so ago: All he wanted was a new ZTR, professional quality, at least 54" cut and he was sure one of us could steer him to a model he could buy for no more than $3500.

Go to your Echo or Stihl dealer, and while they may not have a straight shaft for under $150, they have curved shaft models for that, and the reliability will be a lot better than Craftsman, Weedeater, etc.

Stihl FS-55 or Echo PB-210 are excellent starter trimmers

back when i worked on the golf course the Stihl fs-85 would run almost 8 hours a day every day. great string cutter.

to gibs: those atachments are not the best thing, my dad had one and it worked but it also just added more parts to the shaft which did not work out that well, eventually the connector joint thing got real loose from disconecting the shaft so much it

also, i get the picture that stihl and echo are the best so ill look for some of those brands and yeah i pretty much knew that weedeater brand sucked but i thought craftsman was decent...oh well

thanks

I just purchased a new Maruyama 22.5cc unit 2 weeks ago. It hase been the best light weight unit I have ever bought. Keep in mind I have an Echo 260, Husky 225, Shindaiwa 260 and a Muruyama 3020. This new little unit is the best purchase I have made in the past few years. I virtually weighs nothing and the guys love it becuase they don't get the shoulder pain that goes along with the heavier units. Not to mention its performance is up there with any 25 cc unit I have ever purchased.

But the best thing was......

It only costs 200 bucks.......

talk to your dealer, mine just sold me a $350.00 Toro for $199 on a closeout sale.

Always look for a deal!

Try a Tanaka. I hear good things about them, never used one though. I'm considering buying a Tanaka extended reach hedge trimmer soon.

I bought a homelite and I have about the same amount of yards as you and it would work fine. It was $99. It starts on the second pull EVERYTIME...

Just wait until you start to put some hours on it.

I have a Shindaiwa 231x, I believe it is, with edger and trimmer attachments. It works just fine, but is a little heavier than the others.

I'd go for the Echo SRM-2100 straight shaft at Home Depot for $199. I've had a SRM-210(the older model) for over 5 years and it still runs like new. The Echo heads are also extremely easy to re-fill and their crossfire line is one of the best out there. Good luck man, pretty much anything you get above $150 will be much better than that Craftsman.

The Echo SRM-210 for $199 is a good choice but buy it from a local servicing dealer. He will assemble it and make sure that it runs right for the same money as Home Cheapo.
