I've been looking at some trailers, need to hurry up and get one before the season starts because this will be my first season. I was lookin for some opinions. Is it worth the extra money to buy highr sides. And is it worth it to put mesh on the sides to make sure everything stays where its supposed to. These two extras will cost about 400 bucks more. Bringing the total to around 1700. Is it worth it. Any other advice also welcome.
o yeah, its a 6x12
if you plan to do a lot of hauling the higher sides would be better.
some do not like the high sides, ones that you cannot reach over and grab things out from the curbside. it is not as easy for you and your workers but it also makes it harder for any would be thieves
make sure you have all the room you need and room to grow.
trailers and their space fill up rather quickly.
if you havent used the search feature yet that also might help.
good luck

I put wood on mine after I ran over my $400 shin. edger after it fell out. Ended up costing me $150 for a new shaft and something in the clutch. If you plan on putting anything back there that possibly could get through the holes then definetly do something. Keep in mind this will be useful in the future for hauling mulch or dirt which will save you the delivery fee which you can still charge the customer.

If I where you I would buy an enclosed trailer thats what I use, it may cost more but all of your equipment will be out of the weather and locked up all the time. Another thing is buy a trailer alittle bigger than you think you need, you will always need room.

as beck says you may outgrow that trailer quickly..you might want to consider a large one. They cost just a bit more but I think it would be well worth it...atleast a 14 footer.
On our special use trailers, like a pesticide or water trailer, the mesh screening is essential, so hoses or small equipment don't bind up in the wheels.

I'd buy a "used" one to start out with .....save your $$ ...for "un-expected" things .....than later ( year or two) up-grade .....good luck ...

thanx guys
i think a 12 foot is big enough cause i don't plan on putting more than 2 mowers on anytime in the future. I'd love to uy enclosed but i'm only 17, don't think i could come up with that kind of money. I've used the higher side trailers workin with my uncle, and i like em. Not sure if he has mseh on the sides, can't remember. Thanx again
!2x6Foot for 1400hundred sounds a bit steep. I got a 14x6.5 with white spoke wheels. Its a Hogwild nice trailer, i paid 825dollars brand-new. You might want to do alittle more shopping around. I bet you can get alot better deal. Marks Mowing Service

i called one place they said i can get one for 900
not sure how heavy duty it is. would have to go take a look at it. I looked at a 6x10 used. He wanted 800 for it, wasn't in that good of condition. mesh on gate has to be replaced. says he payed 1600 for it 5 years ago. I said hes either lying to me or stupid for payin that

A H&H trailer is good, it is the trailer of standard where I live & they are all over the US. I paid $800 fo a 6.5 x 16 with no gate & no brakes in Jan 99. Had the gate still from my 12" H&H that I got in 97 for $895 with gate & sold for $1000 without gate in jan 99. Look around I would reccomend brakes but they do add $$$$ but well worth it cuz so do the brakes on your truck.
Most trailers are built real good so just look around.
good luck

Cutterj,
I just bought a 6.5 x 16' with brakes. I got it for under $1400.00 new. I found it in a heavy equipment auto trader monthly magazine, it was a manufacturer, not a dealer. I drove 2.5 hours to N.C. but it was $300.00 cheaper than anywhere local. Used trailers here are scarce and expensive(I looked for 6 months before deciding to go with a new one.).
Good advise here. I bought a 6x12 2 years ago and have all but outgrown it. I never thought I would ever need anything bigger. Of course, I didn't have this site to guide me either.

I'd get a 16 footer. Also that is a very high price on that trailer, my 16 foot x 6-1/2 foot trailmaster only cost 940.00.

That is too high for that size trailer, unless it is a skid steer trailer, i would not spend that. I sell the 6x12 PJ (Quality Commercial Trailer) for $795. As for mesh sides, save the money and buy and install the expanded metal yourself and make it removable.

I bought mine form antique auto sales here in michigan and it is lostly angle iron and not very quality but i only paid 1150 at the time and it is a 16ft with brakes brand new. I dont mind the less quality of the trailer because it weighs less than big heavy duty ones and its easier on the truck in my opinion.

Trailer prices vary depending from state to state (economy driven). If you are going to travel out of state to get one, stop and figure your fuel cost for the trip for that MUST be added to the cost of the trailer. I was going to buy a trailer from NC, but after considering the fuel and time I was within 50 bucks from a local trailer dealer.
Got my 6.5X12 w/30" sides for 1,210.00.
Looked at a used ones, but just had a bad feeling about wher they had been and what they had been through versus at least a 1 yr dealer warranty. Will make my own solid sides and equipment box out of Marine Plywood.PT wood, and some lag bolts. Good luck

Man, Where are you guys finding all these reasonablly priced trailers? Some of you are paying for 14 footers what I could by a 8 footer for. When a used one comes on the market the seller wants all most as much as it was new.
What are some good brand names to look at?
Thanks, Dan

I purchased a 6 x 12 ft trailer with 2 ft mesh sides from Tesh And Sons (Lexington,NC) with the following features:
- (2) spring assist gates - these gates can be lifted with one finger and will not fall on you when the lock pins are disengaged (you actually have to pull the gates down - they have a patent on these gates).
- 15 inch white spoke wheels with radial tires
- wiring is in conduit
- 2000 lb tounge jack
- prime and 2 coats enamel paint
- tounge is made from channel but all other frame work
is made from tubing.
The trailer is top quality.
I paid almost $1800 including tax and have no regrets.

Sounds very exspensive! I just purchesed a 6-1/2 X 13'-4" (custom length to fit in garage) for around a bit over $1000. I don't know where you are located but I purchased this trailer by Mount Vernon Illinois. The maker is Acesco Trailer, phone number 618-532-1425, owners name is Mark. Good luck.

do u think i should look for a triler that is made of square tubing, or is the angle steel ok???

Square tubing is much more heavy duty then agle iron. I just bought a 16 ft trailer made out of aquare tubing... was about 4-500 more than a equivelent angle iron trailer but this trailer with probly out live me!
