I have a Honda that I got new in early 80's. Still cranks on 1st pull. But I only put it on the trailer for about 1 lawn now. It runs about 2 minutes. :)
Let me say this, if I was looking for one these days I would not buy something that expensive. Not to many people cut with them long. Now days people upgrade to bigger commercial equipment. I would buy a cheap 21. Spend your money were it counts and a 21" is not it.

There are alot of new mowers out this yr. I just saw them last week. John Deer is putting out a new line that looks good as well as Toro. You will hear alot of people tell you to get the commercial grade mowers ($800-$1000), but I really dont think they are worth the extra money. In the past I've used the lawnboy self propell 3 in 1. Stay away from the Tecumsas (poorly built) and the 2 strokes (burn too much fuel and have exhaust problems). Good luck.
I use the John Deere 21 inch self propelled mowers. Mulch it, bag it or side discharge it.

I use an older Tru-Cut 21" rotary - rear bag.
Not too heavy, the handle/deck attachment is real stiff, so manuveuring it around things is no problem.
check it out (not sure what the Mfr site is - but here's a distributor):

They come with a bigger engine now - which is a good idea in heavy kikuyu or st augustine in the summer

I agree with 65 hoss! Dont spend your money on a trim mower. I use mine about 15 minutes a week! Get a cheap $100 mtd and take the other 800-$900 and buy a new trimmer and back pack blower! at 100 bucks... you might have to replace it every couple years.... big deal!

We only use JD 21's and don't spare the cost on the engine, just step up and get the Kawasaki motor, it will save you money in the long run, more power, faster, and cuts, bags, andmultches better than the Kholer

Evan, thats great advice! All we use is a 20 inch Yardman
6hp. for any trim work to be done, only $199 at Walmart.
Good Luck!

I bought a Toro Pro-Line 21" Commercial two seasons ago and that was my only mower at the time. It mowed alot of grass in those two seasons and it never gave me a problem. It has the 4.5 Suzuki 2 cycle engine. One gas can for everything. As my customer base grew I purchased a Walker ZTR. I don't use the Toro much anymore. Cost was $899.00 for it. If and when it DIES I'm not sure if I'll spend that much on another trim mower, maybe the Toro Personal Pace or a LawnBoy. If you are going to use it alot and plan on keeping it till it DIES I would buy a good commercial mower.
Hope this helps.

I've got two snapper 21 inch steel deck mowers. They have the 5 hp kawasaki engines. I swear, I never heard a small engine that idles that quietly and smoothly. It is pretty strange sounding.

i have got to say that honda makes the best commercial push mowers around. i bought one 3? years ago. paid 1,100 for it. i have dropped this thing off of rock walls and it was fine, no dents or anything. the engine is made by honda of course. no oil filters to change or anything like that. only things i do to it is change the air filter, change the oil and sharpen the blade. real safe machine, if i put it into second gear it will go just as fast as my belt drive in third gear. nice machine, plenty of power, stainless steel deck, real nice machines overall. however i would not spend 1,100 dollars on one of those things again unless i had lawns that required only push mowers. i would say that you go with a lawn boy, or a snapper, toro is good, lawn boy is probably the cheapest with toro on the high end.

I agree I spent 300.00 on a honda powered MTD that has done fine. I did get the honda though, no more then 2 pulls!

I use lawnboys, never had any problem and they are easy to maintain. They cut really nice because of the desing of the deck
I swear by Airens push mowers. I will never find myself buying another brand. These mowers have lasted the longest, cut the best, and broken down the least/(very rare). Good luck with your purchase.

I use john deere self propelled, but actually never use it, it just sits on the trailer and collects dust, waste of 800.00.

I have a 12 year old Honda. It has been through h@ll and back and still starts with one pull. I wouldn't spend more than $300 on one now though.

I have two Toro personal pace mowers. Mulch or bag, no side discharge, aluminum deck, nice mower. $400 each. I really like the ergonomics of the personal pace. I am a JD guy and the Toro was a better mower than the JD ergonomically for the same money.
