What is the best timing for dethatching. I am in colorado. Are there any processes that should precede or follow dethatching such as aerating, pre-emergent herbicide, etc. Also, do you typically hand rake to pick up or just run a mower over it to pick up the thatch.
What are contractors normally priced at for this service?

I like to perform this service in the Spring as early as possible. While we have one or two guys running the machines depending on the size of the property, we have the others follow behind with steel tine lawn rakes. Once the thatch has been raked up and loaded onto our trucks, we will perform a mowing with catchers attached preferrably between 2-2.5 inches at this time.
As far as pricing goes depending on the number of directions this service is performed, the price will vary from $45/m to $17/m depending on lot size.
Hopefully this helps.
