Has anyone ever laid down caps on sand like pavers? The homeowner wants to keep the border of a raised patio consistent on all four sides, the border that butts the house will not have a wall but can I lay down the caps? I think so but give me reasons if I am wrong.Thanks.

Yes we've done it with no problem. We just knocked off the lip in the back and set them in. I'm not sure if there are issues with doing it but the job we did it on has been in for quite a few years and have been fine.
only thing i can think of would be the strength of the caps...i wouldnt run the tamper over them.

I would agree with Kris. I hadn't considered the compactor but I do know where some of our walls were subject to salt residue from the main roads being plowed caps litterally crumbled after a period of 2-3 years. So yes, be very careful of your compactor
