brown spots & plugs

Hello all,

wow this is a great site, new to biz, and find my self here every day.

i need some help----have a lawn, st augistine---has two huge brown spots--going to use plugs--should i rip up all of the dead grass, and get it down to dirt befored installing the plugs.

any help would be apprectiated :help:
