How do i get my 48" bobcat variable speed to go faster. Will changing the drive belts do it? or are there any other tricks

One trick I know of is to change the pulley size. The only problem with doing this is you will eat up transmissions quick. You should be able to get the pulleys from a bearing or specialty parts store.

Dreaming...belt WB will never go faster than 5-6mph, best mowing quality only @ 4th gear. Don't even think to go faster unless you get a Stander or a Z.

Ah the old variable speed bobcat. Those were the days... Sometimes it is a matter of glazed or worn belts, it's worth a try.
Pulley change might do it, but then you have to find bigger belts. I had luck in replacing the tension springs on the bell crank. ( the whachamacallit that tensions the wheel belts)
Make money with what you have and plan to upgrade.
