For the 1990 GMC 350 with a/c.... do you need a special tool to remove the clutch off of the a/c pump?

You can get the whole compressor on exchange from AutoZone, etc pretty cheap.

Only reason I could imagine removing the clutch only is if you have a good working R-12 system and don't want to lose your freon, otherwise R/R the whole compressor.

AutoZone has a loan-a-tool program, you may be able to get the tool from them.

You will probably need an impact wrench to remove the nut that holds the pulley on, because there is no way to hold the internals from spinning, and the special tool to pull the lightly-pressed pulley off.

Yes you'll need a special puller/installer. You willalso need a special holder to hold the compressor while removing the nut and the clutch assy. You should be able to get them from Autozone or somewhere like that. No sense in replacing the whole compressor for just a clutch and coil assy. You have R12 or has it been converted to R134a?
