View Full Version : Mole crickets

Anybody familiar with these pests ? They make a large mound of soil in the middle of a lawn the size of a horse's dropping. The mounds are unsightly for a homeowner and they are spread out over an entire section of a lawn.
Has anyone else run into this problem in NJ ? If so, what did you do to fix the problem ?
Thanks in advance

Check with your local county extension office to find out what kind of insecticide to use. My turfgrass management course book says that you should treat the lawn in the late afternoon or early evening. Late June or early July is the best time of the year to treat because night temps are at least 60 to 70 degrees and the mole crickets are active. It also said to soak the lawn before and after application. Poisoned baits are listed as another option. It says they are most effective in late summer early fall. Good luck.
