For any servise no sales tax applies.

But if you sell a product you should be charging sales tax on the product sold.

Income tax....yes, you damn well better pay!

If your really serious about going legit, consult a lawyer. They can review all your bid/estimate documents and make sure your safe on the legal front.

.

Actually it depends on where you live. I'm required to collect sales tax on lawn mowing here. But certain services I offer are not taxable.

Gogetter is right -- the matter is a state-by-state issue. In our area, there is even a distinction from county to county (one county keeps 1% of the state collection).

Check with your accountant. They can get you in touch with the right state agency to apply for a license, how to submit, etc.

our state doesn't apply sales tax to services yet but we sure do pay state and federal taxes. They want their piece of your pie and you had better keep careful records of expenses and income.

totally incorect, state to state, in ohio if you make more then 5000, you must collect sales tax, there is alot more to this then just putting out flyers and mowing lawns.....

Check your own state laws. In Connecticut, we have to charge a sales tax for the service we provide, and for any products we sell to a customer.

Is there a place online where a person can find out this kind of info? Taxes etc. I am in Ohio and would like to scoop on operating it legitimately. Thanks,

Most states don't require you to charge tax on services, but if you base your operations in one state and do business in more than one, watch out!
