I see alot of outfits with a split rear gate on their trailer, what is the advantage?

Pick up a full gate, then try a split gate and you'll know.

I've got a full gate, and my back has become much stronger. So I'm guessing weight is the issue. Well you could look at the other way too, you've pick up a split gate--twice.

Personal preference I believe.Maybe you only need a small mower off one side of the trailer then you don't have to put both gates down. Plus weight has a lot to do with it.

I'm happy to lift both sides of my split gate myself anytime. there's plenty of more productive ways to get a workout in this business besides deadlifting a full gate 10 or 20 times a day. I like to get the gates up as soon as possible so the guy blowing off can breeze through and clean up behind the trailer while I'm already starting the truck, rather than standing there waiting for him to lift the other side. no major disadvantages I've experienced.

You can always get spring assists on the sides before spending too much money at the chiropractor.

Split gates WERE a necissity back in the days before there were many different gate lift assists on the market. The gate on my trailer is split but it's locked together with a flat bar 98% of the time. I have an ezgate. I drop one side just to get the 21" off at one stop I have that is a lawn that's too small for any other mower.
