Great blower no doubt, but I like to see some competition? Where are the challengers? Echo, Shindaiwa, Tanaka, Stihl? Every champ should defend it's title once in a while! Buying a backback today was a no brainer.

Yes, it seems that it is a no brainer, I just wish I had known the power of Redmax a few years ago when I bought my 2 stihls. Years back, I believe that stihl was the backpack to have, it is all I ever used growing up. Now, they look like toys compared to Redmax. They are great machines, but have lost their luster compared to the present day power.

The challenger is the new Stihl BR600. Better numbers than the 8000.

What are those numbers? Everything I have seen they are still not close to the RedMAx.

shindaiwa has a new one that I thought was going to be coming out this fall. I heard the engine might be like an 80cc or so but I am not sure. There will always be something newer and more powerful. Seems like each year there is something new. I do have the redmax 8000 and it is an awesome blower so is the shindaiwa eb630.

is it that much more? No. But the stihl has a conductor wire for anti-shock from static elec, is lighter, is quieter, is contoured, important components are hidden..etc, etc....is the redmax 8000 nice?...yes it is...it is a powerful mo fo also...both units are very nice...so, it may be a coin toss and personal pref...

I Have 8000 Remax Bought It Last Year. Work Great Fora Back Blower. But I Got Outdone When The Yard I Was Working Had Wall Of Leaves 5 Ft Tall 1/2 Acre Wide. Had To Usea 180 Pound Billy Goat Type Blower That Wheel To Move This Wall. Neverless It It Took A Wile To Finally Get That Wall Cleared And Moved

Redmax says 943 cfm is that at the tube? is Stihl or Redmax stronger

Has anyone ever read the owners manual for the 8000? The 943 number is without the pipe. it says in the manual "w/std pipe 688cfm" then under it is the 943 without pipe....

hmmmm no one else has ever seen that part?

I'm sorry I never replied to you. I just didn't see any posts to this thread for some reason. Anyway here they are from the manufacturer's respective websites.

Redmax EBZ8000

Max air w/o pipe 943 CFM
Air with pipe 688 CFM
Air speed 203 MPH

Stihl BR600

Max air w/o pipe 1012 CFM
Air with pipe 712 CFM
Air speed 201 MPH

I agree with you DC this unit will be very competitive not only because it has power but it is lighter. A lot of guys who apparently don't use these machine 200 days a year don't understand how important it is to have a lighter machine. In fact I still think the BR420 does fine on most jobs except when doing heavy leaf cleanups. And when you need real power get a 13HP WB Billy Goat and don't fool around !

we bought the br600 this summer and i am VERY impressed.....
i have the redmax 7000 (whatever the number is) that i bought last year. I thought it was the biggest baddest thing out, but the BR600 blows it away.............

we use them side by side moving sand in parking lots. the stihl produces much more cfm.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I am going to pick up a BR600 myself before fall.

Not because it's the 'baddest' most powerful blower on the block...
But because of the power-to-comfort ratio.

Power to comfort ratio...now THERE is the important term. It's a shame they can't put scientific numbers on that (like power to weight) but without a doubt,...that's what it all boils down to.

Yeah... that's why I used the term "power to comfort ratio"

My opinion is not only based on power and weight, but also comfort and ergonomics.
These Stihl blowers don't stick so far out off your back and feel like a counterbalancer.

But frankly, let's be honest here too. We really have RedMax and probably Echo to thank for blower improvements. When it comes right down to it, they shamed Stihl into developing these new blowers.... and Stihl waited so long to act that they were sick of hearing RedMax this and RedMax that... especially when they so clearly saw the flaws of their designs.

The end result is the BR600 series.
It's both everything the RedMax & Echo big boys are...
And at the same time, everything they are not...

I have the 100. I have a split boom and its faster then changing the head all the time. I like the 4mix. I also would like it if they made a longer shaft one.

Yeah, I would like a longer shaft model also. But I've gave up on convincing Stihl to offer one. So what I suggest you do is hit some place with a lot of stuff lying around and get yourself a good j-handle to go on it in addition to the standard handle.

I'll try to get you a picture of my setup on the 85 sometime....

I just bought the Redmax EBZ8000 in July and love it. I am sure that the Stihl BR600 is just as good. Couple of questions I have about the unit:
1. I still don't see how the 64.8 cc Stihl engine outperforms the 71.8 Red Max in terms of cfms.
2. How does the gas consumption compare between the two?

kc2006

I'd like to see if the 600 has all the problems the 550 had. My 550 was in the shop once a week for a month that i owned it because the valves would keep going out of adjustment.

When it comes down to comfort, the stihl sat better on my back and had less vibration, but my echo isn't too far off. Prior to the 600 i'd much rather live with the little more uncomfortable one then not have the power. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to check the 600 out.

My guess is the Stihl has a better impeller and blower housing.

I think the 4mix makes more power for its size. It looks that way for the trimmer.

My BR600 does not outperform my Redmax 7001s. My crew thinks the echo 650 outperforms it as well. I have about 20 hours on the Stihl... does it need valves adjusted or something?

don't compare a chevy chevette to a corvette--they ain't the same machine!...the redmax blowers look like gadgets from the 1960s...the Stihls can only get better and look like something is supposed to look in 2005...

I have a Redmax 8000 and 2 BR400's, the 8000 is an awsome unit but after using it every day I have decided that its WAY WAY TO HEAVY for everyday use so back to the BR400 I went with the 8000 being used as a backup and spring/fall clean ups..... My next blower will be the new Stihl but I will always have an 8000 on hand for the heavy stuff.....

Take it back to the dealer and let them check the RPM. It may have a problem and the dealer is the one to fix it, for free.

I went to the dealer today to check out the 600, talked with the same one that took my 550 back and we were discussing the issues, he said stihl worked all the bugs out of the 550 and said he hasn't heard of any problems with the 600 at all.

If I do get one it won't be until early october so by that time if any issues occure i'm sure i'll read it here. As for comfort I love the stihls, weight isnt even an issue, its 3lbs ligther then my echo but the way that blower is designed is perfect to me for fit.

Lawnworks, i'd also take it back and have them check it over, my br550 left the dealer with the valves out of adjustment and I had to take it back next day.

Well i got it today. It feels great and it has like a pinpoint blowing action. its Quiet and it blows the sidewalks off nice. It will be used in the everyday operation.

I purchased the BR600 about a month ago. Couldn't be happier. Very powerful.

One thing I have noticed though.....because of the 4Mix engine, it is quieter. Normally, the human brain equates sound level with power, so you can be fooled......but don't be. This is one bad mamma-jamma.

Good point there about the noise.

Another point I thought of when I read that is....
The human brain also equates noise into mental and physical tiredness.

I had never thought about this much until I recently started a trial run on a different kind of trimmer line. I had forgotten how noisy and annoying some trimmer lines could be and I had also lost touch with just how quite the Suffix quiet line is.

With that said, I don't know why I refuse to wear hearing protection.
I'd probably feel just a tad better at the end of the day if I did....
