This really has me thinking.

Would you cut a neighborhood of 50 lawns (only 1-2 street's long neighborhood, nothing huge) for $15 a piece? I mean, $15 a piece, but it's house-to-house-to-house. NO driving at all, to all 50.

Would you?

if they're normal sized(5000ft2) i would say hell ya... i had a retirement community i did a ffew years ago that was similar to that.... you would have to see about the trimming edging etc. though.

yes, you must trim and blow-clean.

the lot size will take about 15-20 minutes each. (yeah, like 5000ft)

If you could get it done in a day..

I'd definatly do it. Considering the time and fuel savings it would be worth it at $15 each.

I don't think so, but if I could do it in 8 hrs solo and upsell I'd think about it.

Similar to a big condo complex.....only you have 50 headaches to worry about for 15 bucks each.

That's a good point! I would really have to run some numbers, but I think I'd take it. :p Then again, maybe not.

I would not do it for $15. Do the math. I am assuming a 2 man crew, I do similar size lots, and we average 3 per hour (back to back like your scenario) with a 2 man crew. Now assume a break here and there, and you are talking 17 hours per guy X 2 = 34 ManHours for 50 houses. 50 X $15= $750. Thats only $22 per manhour. I can waste 10-20% of my time driving and do much better than that.

I would do it for $20 per house based on my production figures.

That is based on a 36" mower, with fenced backyards. If you have a 60" with no fences between yards, you could drop your time significantly, but I am going to assume the backyards are fenced and you will not be getting a 60" rider back there.

You would do well to find out what these people are paying now. $25? $30?

Why leave so much money on the table? If they're paying $25 each, then $22.50 takes it. Meanwhile, you've still got 50 invoices, 50 different sets of requests, 50 accts receivable to chase . . .

How many have fences in the back that need trimming along? How much dog crap, or toys to deal with? How many want a fert program? How many want bushes trimmed?

Or am I misunderstanding and a neighborhood is negotiating as one? OK . . . is that gonna be one bill or separate checks?

if i could get that many in a row i would give them a discount, but no lower than $30 each. our average lawn charge is about $40 a cut. we turn down a couple hundred new yards a year. in the spring we get around 40+ calls a day. we cant find anymore help so we keep raising prices. only had 2 people all year say price i gave was too high. one called back the next week. why cheat yourself.

most just mow as side job night and weekends or would be considered a s**** operation. there's about 5 pages in yellow pages for lawn mowing and landscaping ads and listings (around 100 different lcos listed) most have under 50 yards. new people every year. lot quit or fail every year, too. 2 counties... Bella Vista, Bentonville (walmart H.O.), Rogers, Lowell, Springdale, Fayetteville (U of A razorbacks), Centerton, Prarie Creek, and surrounding towns... about 1 million people. i'll post some pics one of these days when i get some extra time to go take them.

Oh, OK. You have one million people. Whoa. We have about 300,000 AT MOST around here. (That's population, not houses)

Yeah, please, post some pictures. :)

I don't take hypos, they're not real and neither is the money nor the work nor anything connected to it.

But in reality I DO have 2 yards side-by-side that WOULD normally go for $30 - $35 each but I do them both in one fell swoop which takes me 60-75 minutes and the ladies are elderly and one writes me the check one time then the other the next and I do both for 50 and I get ONE check every time for cut / trim / blow.

Would I consider something that doesn't exist?
No, what for?

$50 for 60-75 mins? I hope those are solo times, becuase thats still a little too low for a 2 man crew.

Nope too cheap. It cost so much just to show up. After 50 lawns you're gonna need some amount of maintenance. And then you have to prepare and mail out invoices. I don't drop the gate for less than $20.

As far as the billing and such go, around here it's usually the HOA that does the paying so it's only one bill. Yeah, i would do it.

We could do well at this rate with two stipulations: we control the watering and no Lawnkiller/Too Brown Deadlawn applicators allowed :D

If there is profit there that is acceptable to you, then of course. We cut a townhouse complex for 6 bucks a unit--6 BUCKS! but there is 200 of them, its takes 4.5 hrs, and we have the rest of the contract too.
