Help with designs

I operate a lawn and landscape maitenance operation. From time-to-time, I have clients ask me to do installs. I handle the simple jobs easily enough, and hire out larger jobs. I would like to get more involved with design and build. Problem is, I can't design. I do okay in my head or sketching a design, but I want to be able to make technical drawings. I have the tools, scale, templates, curves etc., I just don't know how to use them. I would prefer to learn this method before buying landscape design software. Can you folks recommend a book or something to get me started. I walk my local nurseries on rainy days to familiarize myself with plant material.

Check with your local professional associations such as Landscape Contractors Assoc., Nursery and Landscape Assoc. for classes and seminars. Also, community colleges may offer courses of interest to you.
