Lawn Repair Help

Been in house for 4 years, lawn has taken a real turn for the worse starting last year. I would like to put some work into this fall and next spring.

The plan:

1) Within the week, spray a Weed B Gone type product over entire lawn now and begin cutting shorter (now cut at 3").

2) Early to Mid September - dethatch.

3) Mid September - Aerate

4) Followed by overseeding (plan is a fescue blend suitable to primarily direct sun, suggestions) and appropriate watering.

5) Spring - Get down preemergent early enough. Another aeration?

Thoughts.

Get the lawn in early enough to get a couple of mowings on it. You may want to move up your start date to Sept. 1.

It is always a good idea to aerate and get down some fert early next spring on the new lawn.

Follow up.

I was planning on dethatching because I believe I have a thatch problem and I thought it would help remove some of the crab grass that I have killed.

Will aeration/slitseeding suffice?
