flat deck

Does anyone have any thoughts on removing the original steel box on a ford pickup and replacing it with a wooden flat deck with fold down sides? It strikes me this arrangement would save oodles of time and energy in loading/offloading equipment and materials. Has anyone done this using wood only? (Old truck - not willing to spend much for the alteration.)

Yes. I used stake pockets with a dowel-peg sytem to keep the pockets from coming out of the pockets. When we needed to load or unload palletized materials, pull the stake and load, then replace into pockets.
