i need some opinions on shade tolerant plants. i have a job coming up and one area is about 90% shade, it sees a little sun in the morning, thats it though. im looking for something evergreen, im thinking hemlock(i need some height), i also need shrubs perhaps something in a holly? i appreciate any help. BOB

Taxus cuspidata "Upright" grows in Zones 4-9 up to 4m high.
A pyramidal shape that prefers shade, dark green foliage.

Have you tried checking out the site for "Sunset" magazine. I don't know if it is on the web still, but they use to have a plant selection site before. All you had to do is type in your local zip code, type of plant, bush ect.. and would give you botanical names of plants. If you wanted pics, would have to purchase their cd-rom title.

How about American Holly (Ilex Opaca), Mahonia bealei, or Leatherleaf Viburnum for height? Remember Hostas, Sedges and Ferns for low fill-in's.
