View Full Version : 15HP Kohler Question

I purchased a Scag mower with a 15HP Kohler engine about a year ago. The other day I have noticed that there was an oil buildup around the bolts that bolt to the OHV casing. I looked around and there is no oil around the gasket. I took the bolts out (the two bottom bolts) and found oil to be on the threads. Is this a serious problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you calling the OHV casing the head or the rocker cover ?
What size were the bolts you took out ?

If it is infact the rocker cover bolts you are speaking of it's no big deal.
The sealer around the bolt holes on the inside isn't holding any longer.
The proper fix would be removal of the rocker cover and clean the old sealer off the cover and head area being CAREFUL not to cause any gouges in the aluminum and run a bead of prematex gasket eleminator on the cover and re-install it.
