I was going to do my own overseeding this year but work is too busy. Anyway I had a guy come out and explain his method. His tractor mounted "drill" lifts the grass, deposits the seed and rolls it after. The seed is not actually placed in the soil. His argument is a slit seeder damages the roots of the existing grass too much. Sounds strage to me but it could be a great method......

Ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds like a slit seedr set to a shallower depth, to me. Believe me...what a slit seedr does - does NOT affect the rootzone adversely. As a matter of fact, it is very beneficial to it in the long run.

Is this a bad idea or should I just rent myself a slit seeder and do it right??

Rent a machine and do it yourself, Your gonna be responsible for the results so use a machine designed for what you want to accomplish. After you see what a slice seeder can do then have the other guy demo his method of doing it and you can compare.
