Old forum members never die, they just...

In my case, they fade away but check in now and again. Being married with a toddler to look after doesn't allow much time to peruse the forum regularly. In the daytime I'm too busy, at nite I'm too tired.

Nice to see the forum is so successful. I'm sure it's helping a lot of guys out. I see a number of the original guys (those that were on the old site(s)) still post regularly. Others may have run out of steam, or scaled back to devote more time to family - like me. If I were single and not a dad, I'd probably still be on all the time.

Lawnsite has grown a lot, especially in the past year. We have at least 2000 more members than 1 year ago and we have had as many as 115 on at one time and as many as over 100,000 hits in a day. It makes the Lawnicure days seem like dinasaur days, but that was just 2 years ago. :)

Eric,

Is there still any archives or info from the Lawnicure days? I was a visitor there and watched Lawnsite grow from the beginning. I guess you were responsible for me finding Lawnicure back in the early stages. I was and still am a Dixie site reader. Its fun to reminise (sp) the good ole days!!

Good to hear from you again cutntrim. I know what you mean about the toddler or should I say toddlers. Mine are now 3 and 4 I have more time now to look in on things here.

I can't imagine how i'm gonna keep up in another year! I have a hard enough time as it is! Would you believe I logged out at 9:00 PM yesterday and when I came back on today about 8:00 PM I was 4 1/2 pages behind!!!!!!! I am just about finished catching up 2 1/2 hours later and have to go to sleep now, but I am not gonna be able to keep up with any more!!!!! And I don't even read all the threads! How do you do it Eric?!Is it getting harder to keep up for you too, Eric? BTW, wish I was here when the forum first started too, but I didn't know about it! Must've been interesting! What was it like when it first started out?

Eric ELM

Dixie1, as far as I know there is no archive for Lawnicure or Hall of Forums. I think anything we talked about back then has been rehashed a few times anyway. :)

Vibe Ray, Now you know why I needed help with doing this. Back when we had the Lawnicure.com, if there were 10 or 20 posts in a day, we got excited. It was a basic forum compared to this one. What is cool is, most of the original posters from that era are still here. As long as we are talking about it, how many of us are former Lawnicure members? :)

I would guess most of the members that were on the Hall of Forums.

I remember when it was hall of forums, I used to check that out but didn't become a member untill febuary when it became lawnsite. I still can't believe how many post a day there are now and how many new members there are. I was reading TURF today and even saw a couple of our discussions in there.

It is amazing how far this forum has come in such a short time. I was just thinking about the day I joined Lawnsite.com after being part of the other two.

I got registered and started looking around the new site and I found a Welcome to our newest member, Eric ELM and I thought, gee, how cool can it get.
Registered Members, 5
Threads, 2 (Both Tests by the administrators)
replies, 1 (Another test) :)

On the previous forum, we just posted and that was about all it did, but it was still great.

Who would of ever thought it would become this big, this fast. I feel I have gained a lot of friends here and met several of you members personally. I hope to meet a lot more of you this year too. :)

I remember being on Lawnicure, was happy to see three new threads a day, in the year and a half since then it has grown from 80 members (when I joined) to almost 3000.

Chuck thanks for a place to learn and teach.

Cutntrim glad to see ya back, I remember those days as lawnicure and hallofforums. I became a member shortly before lawnicure changed to Hall of Forums I was going through my favorites a short time back and still had both listed there. It has been great fun and very educational, and is amazing what chuck and all the others have done for this site in making it the great forum that it is.

I belong to a couple of forums on different topics (like digital photography) and I can say that they are not as together and don't have the friendly atmosphere that we have here. It is also depressing to post a thread and have 3 days go by without an answer....you can almost hear the echo of the keyboard.

Hey now, no fair.

We've been members since March, and our date doesn't reflect it. Need some proof? :) http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?threadid=1708
Eric had to unregister us because we had been very
bad troublemakers. :)

Just kidding about that. I had him unregister that name because I couldn't get our password to work, and I ended up having to re-register under a slightly different one.

I found Lawnicure by just stumbling around over the
internet. I remember during the Hall of Forums Chuck talked about doing a HUGE price jump. I always wondered how that worked out? I think though that he must have sold his lawn service to keep this baby going. Thanks!

It's nice to see some old faces..er, ID's...on this thread. Might be cool to have a "senior members" section of the forum. Accessible only to those with senior status. A little back room for the old pros to chew the fat.

I was around in the Lawnicure and Hall of Forum days too. There were some troubles in the continuity for awhile, plus some hostility. I recall somebody breaking away .... thought they could do the job better.

I dropped out when the season started last Spring, and didn't return until this Winter. But, I learned many useful things to do, and also learned how differently I think about the business than most. I'm sure I've taken away much more than contributed. So, thank you to those who have been so willing to share ideas, tips, etc. Since we are spread out and are not competition, we have little to loose by being open.

Several have commented about "too much to read." I agree. Soon, my time will be better spent working full-time outside. At the risk of upsetting a great Forum, one suggestion might help with time management. A good thread title would help in determining which threads to bother to read. We use headlines in newspapers to help us decide which stories to read. Vague or ambigious titles of threads means opening the thread, often to learn the topic is not of interest. Thoughtful titles would be of great service to other readers. Do I open it or not? I know this is not fail-safe as often a thread takes a tangent and good information is in a thread that is loosely related, or not related, to the initial topic. ... just a thought.

I missed out on the lawnicure days, but was a member of the HOF. It is truly amazing how far this place has come. I used to be a senior member but due to a glitch when servers were switched my name was changed and I started over with 0 posts.

OLD SCHOOL BABY!
I just got started at the end of Lawnicure, about a month or so before it changed to HOF. I don't remember much (geez it was only 2 yrs. ago) except that I had frequent trouble accessing the site. My member date to LS was Dec. 99, but came on as Jan 2000. Alot has changed since then.......
Nowadays when I do have time to get on, I only have time to peruse about 0-40% of new material from the diff. forums here.
Great stuff guys & gals! Keep it up.

I also found Lawnicure in 1999 while searching for lawncare sites. There was a page there to mark which mower brand we use and showed the percentage of each. I think most were Scag when I found the site, so I voted for my DC.

I'm still around.....its been a long time since I've been on here and decided to check in and I found this post! Thats funny,......I'm a famous "old timer" at Lawnsite! ;)

I was on here much more while I was stationed in Germany because I was running the grounds maintenance shop on base and doing a lot of landscape work on the weekends in the local area.

I'm stationed out of Las Vegas now, and still keep busy on the side with Landscaping, but I do a lot more remodeling and handyman type stuff there. Of course I'm only there 3 months a year because they keep sending me to Iraq and Afghanistan!

I'm in Iraq right now doing convoys again like last year, and will prob be headed to Afghanistan in a month or so as we shut down a lot of the small bases here in Iraq and work ourselves out of a job.

Well if anyone wants to get in touch I still get e-mail notifications when I get a PM on here.

It was good seeing some familiar names on here!

Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!
