i think it would give late payers even more reason to pay later... if you have a small client base that pays well i would probably say it might be worth it..

Hi Frontier-Lawn,
Did you know you can print your invoices to pdf format and then email them as an attached file?
Maybe this will help.

I do it, send them straight out of QB to those who have internet access.
Fastest I have ever had for response time, usually 2 to 3 days I have the checks coming in. of those billed that way, I have not had a single slow payer.
My snail mail accounts take a month to get the checks back to me.
I wish I could bill them all on e-mail!! :D :D :D :D
Oh ya, When e-mail billing, Commercial accounts are great, get the e-mail address to the acct payable and if possible a contact persons name so it goes straight to the one who approves the payment. I did that with a comm. that was the slowest payer i ever dealt with. Now I'm payed within a week.
I proposed it 2 years ago. Put a nice note in their monthly invioces.
Not one response. I didn't offer a discount or anything though.
I check email 2-3 times a day (sometimes more). Maybe my customers aren't as web savvy?
Thing is, my Software makes it real easy to do. One button and all email invoices are sent. I set up a few dummy accounts to test it out. Real slick if you ask me.

I just started doing it a couple of months ago. And about half of my customers gave me their email address. I tell them to check their email around the first of each month. Works great, Guess which customers didn't give me their email? The freakin late payers!

I e-mail about 30% of my maintenance invoices and usually get a check 1-2 days after they go out. I would do more but we have alot of elderly clients that don't use e-mail.

50/50 All my older clients that are not computer savey I just leave an invoce in the door jamb on the last mow or visit of the month. I would rather use email because it saves a fortune in envelopes, computer ink and paper not to mention time.

I sent a note on the invoices saying - e-mail billing is now availible, please provide your address if interested. I think everyone that had computers responded.
now I request E-mail on new signups and inform them that this is how bills will arrive. :D

as for those who say people don't respond to the 'give me your email bit'. I recently started emailing bills as .pdf from gopher. I added a line that says "please email my next bill to: " I have been doing this for about 4 billing cycles and now am up to about 65 or 70% email billing. I request a read-receipt so I can tell if they open it, I will do a follow up phone call if i don't get that confirmation by 2 days of when the bill is due.

I email anything I can its 2005 almost everyone has a computer. Invoices, estimates, pay bill through online banking bill pay. I even accpet credit cards through paypal.com in case they don't have cash or have bounced a check before.
I also deal with rent collection so that a little different. It saves tons of money emailing receipts too.

Hi Frontier-Lawn & Tinman,
I didn't see your posting until just now. Download the 2004 version and then print to file. Choose PDF. That should do it. If not let me know.

If you are using Quickbooks - Their Quickbooks Billing Solutions options makes it real easy to handle billing for you. With that you have 2 options
1. You can have them mail the invoice out for you with return enevelope pre addressed back to you.
2. They can email the bill to the customer - and if you accept credit cards via Quickbooks Merchant Soltuions they can just click on the email and pay right away.
The service costs about $14.95 a month + I think .70 cents or so for each bill you have them physically mail.
We ask each customer when we sign them up how they prefer to receive their bills, in the mail or via email... The e-mail option is growing in popularity.
You can even check online to confirm they have received it and if they have opened the email or not.
Great service!
