I got the kubota ztr Friday and I love it. The 21 horses is plenty power for the 60 inch cut. The hydr deck lift is neat saves energy and the ride it rides pretty comfortable with the suspension seat. Just wait till all the exmark and chopper fans take a look at this one.

Congrats on your new mower. When are you going to post a picture of it? Is it the diesel? I have a 20 HP diesel on my JD and when I mowed with it, the 20 HP pulled the 60" deck without a problem.

Congrats on the new mower. I've been drooling over one of those since last fall when I demoed one. I considered one heavily before I bought the most recent Dixie, but I decided to stay consistant with the equipment. There may be one in my future though. I have to admit... they ride and handle better than even a Dixie, and that's not something I admit easily.
Any links to a Kubota web page with this mower? All I can get to is the heavy equipment stuff and industrial engines.
Skyphoto,
I dont think that there will be any reliability problems with a Kubota-anything! Probably wont hear much from Jason!
Good luck, and post some pics, Jason.

Congrats man. By the way what do they say the
blade tip speed is.

I'll post some pics asap. The blade speed is 14440 fpm.
The pto clutch is wet multi disk, which should last a long time.
I used to have a 14,400 kps MODEM! What a speed demon from a 9600 baud! This seems a little slow for blade tip speed however, are you sure of this Jason? Most of todays rotary mowers are around the 18,000 + fpm zone.

14,440 is what the manual states, i dont know if its lower because kubota went with a shaft drive to a gear box then to a belt. The cut was good no matter what the tip speed was, so i didnt worry about it. The next thing is if I can get double blades on the mower?

Jason, I live near Syracuse New York and have been waiting for this unit for over 6 months. It is good to hear the great review. Would you mind telling what you paid for it? The lowest price I got was $8850.00 for the ZD21. Thanks...Jon

Jon S,
I too am in Syracuse.
Good to see a fellow salt city person here.
Who is the dealer in Syracuse that you are waiting to see the Kubota at ?
I was just wondering if it was Deveau ?
I heard they are going out of business, and that a larger company in town is buying there business out and taking over the product lines.
I was wondering if they are keeping Kubota ?
Anyways I am a Hustler Factory Rep, and if you would like to see the Hustler Z demo'd Let me know.

Woops, that didn't work too good now did it? I meant to put img and /img but it didn't work because I put the brackets around it. Do that but add the brackets on yours so the picture will come out.

PJ,
Nice to hear from another Syracusan!! I am looking at the Kubota ZTR at White's in Canastota. Yes, Deveau is going under and they are being bought by Tracey in East Syracuse. The best I know is that Tracey is keeping the Kubota line. However, Lucas in Cazenovia is merging with Empire Tractor and will be selling the Kubota line also. More competition means better prices for us. I am very partial to Kubota and want to stay with the product line. Thanks for the offer!!

I talked to a Kutota dealer today about the Z-D-21 he just sold his last one yesterday. More will be in next week he has a demo but it was out when i was there. He said the blade tip speed was 1900 and also said that the Dixies were around 19,500 which is OSHAS limit. He told me the 21hp has just as much power as the yanmar 26,they have a home show the 5th,6th and 7th, Im going to go demo one just to see what there like. They have many great features, easy to change blades the deck raises up which would be helpful. He quoted me the price of 9150.00 anyway ill see how it feels at the show. Marks Mowing Service

I demoed one of these and loved it. Very smooth controls and loved the hydro lift. I have questions about the cut? Jason how is the cut on it? I looked at the deck and its the same design as the old kubotas. No baffles under neath, just a straight deck. Makes it shoot grass out far but it tends to clump. Just wondering how it was cutting for you in wet or thick conditions?

I wouldnt know about the wet and thick conditions. I dont cut this type of grass, the wettest I will cut will be a little morning due. If it is to wett i wont even put the kubota on I would be scared it would mare or ripeup the grass, which it has big tires 12x24 but i still wouldnt chance of messing up someones yard. Later in the summer when the ground is like a rock i might cut after a summer shower then i can tell you what the cut is like. The dealer i bought mine from said I can get the mulching cover for the mower im going to try it out also.

Juts found the blade tip speed-17,300-17,500.Not the fastest, but probably why it can keep up with the higher displacement Dixie in thick grass. Its deck is geared slower, thus the blades have more torque per hp the mower delivers.I would think the slightly higher tip speed would allow slightly higher ground speeds .Kubota's are usually well built.Good luck with it Jason

Congrats on the new machine.
Should last a long time, Kubota equipment is generally very durable.
As far as peformance, we demoed one side by side with a Lazer and for the grass we cut, the Lazer has the definite perforence advantage.
My guys did like the rotating front axle to change the blades though.
