Well guys and girls after my 2nd year I think I'm ready to start another lawn care crew next year. I have somebody who I have trained to be a crew leader and I have enough jobs and continue to get more, about 3-6 a week by word of mouth and I will be advertising next spring.
So heres the equipment I'm thinking of buying.

Toro Z550 Turbo Force 52" 27Hp
Toro 30443 WB 36" 15Hp Hydro
Stihl 110 Edger $380
Husqvarna 145Bt Back pack blower $300
Husqvarna 123L Trimmer $199.99
Husqvarna 326Lx Trimmer $329.99
Stihl HS 80 30" Hedge Trimmer $389.99

OR

Bobcat 52" 19Hp ztr $6000
Bobcat 36" 15Hp WB Hydro $5200
And the same hand tools as above.

Which one should I go with? I have already gotten prices for the bobcats but what do the toros go for. And If you can post some pics of stripes made by toros that would be great, I have already demoed the bobcats too. Also what kind of pay should my crew leader get I was thinking $17 per hour after taxes. Thanks! :waving:

If your getting a ztr, get a 60" exmark. Then Shindaiwai whips and redmax blowers, or the new shindaiwai blowers, never used em but they gotta be good. Whatever you do though, you must get and Exmark

I've tired the exmarks and their not that great and I don't like being like everyone else. The Shindaiwai I have never tried I will look at the specs. I love the Husqvarnas though I own 3 and never have had any problems. If somebody could give me 10 good reasons to look at the exmarks then I might think about it.
Thanks for the post wacamaster

i would go with the bobcats. i've tried the exmark ztrs and i found that the bobcat was the exact same. except the price on the exmarks are higher.as for the trimmers and blowers i wouldnt buy anything but redmax. i've tried stihl trimmers and in my opinion the suck compared 2 the redmax. stihl cant match the power. the only thing that stihl makes that i would buy would be the chainsaw.

I think that Exmarks next model year "Lazer" is going to feature hydraulic driven blades. I have always liked the Exmark equipt. and will be looking foward to trying out the new Lazer-Z.

well they are the same as the Toro's, exact same. Except for the new Triton decks (that just came out for 06) they are basically the same machine. So since you are thinking about buying a Toro, the eXmark should ride the same, be built the same and cut a little better with the triton. I would highly recommend either of the 2 manufactures if your going for a nice even cut and great striping. I own 2 44'' Z Masters and could not be happier.

What do think about running a 60" deck? They work really well for us. I think the 60 and 36 mower combo is a perfect residential crew set-up. Good luck on starting your crew... I know it is exciting.

Thanks for all the replies! I am going to demo a Toro and a Bobcat 60" to see how it works, it just will be very tight in alot of places. Sorry I still like the Toros more than exmark but I will try one out at GIE.
