Just wondering how many days a week do you guys mow?

I mow monday - saturday

I work for a company in college that mowed 3 14 hour days and part of the 4th to get things done. It seemed to work good for them especially when it rained.

My average work week is about 30 hrs, give or take.I only work on a weekend day if I absolutly have to. Hey, life is too short and it's always too nice outside here to spend you life working yourself to death. We like to ride our motorcycles and go to the beach or fish on the pier or just be outside doing something. Money is a nessacery evil but it should not rule you. My wife and I are enjoying what Fla has to offer. We moved down here to get away from all the "big city" stress.

Keep Sunday for yourself, physically and mentally. I also avoid saturday mowing because people are home, come out to talk, slow you down, kids everywhere.

I'm Divorced & recently remarried,

I have joint custody of my son(every other weekend). The weekend I have him I don't work at all.

I work Monday through Saturday the rest of the time some times from 7-8am through dark if needed to get everything done so I can have part of the weekend off if possible.

The only day I try really hard not to work on is Sunday but with rain sometimes I have to.

Sometimes it strikes me as funny and i laugh that yall dont mow in the rain. I know i live in a very rainy area so it is different for me than yall. If i waited for a non rain day to mow, then i would start up in about May or June. LOL

I only work M-F. I start at eight and finish when the jobs are done. Sometimes at 2, sometimes at 5. Who knows. I keep friday somewhat light. I like to have the opportunity to go camping or something or other if i want too.

Why not work weekends? When i first started i was like yall working saturdays and stuff. Then i was on here one day and the topic came up. Some of the vetrans were saying that "This year i am going to try and take my weekends off" and every one laughed with/at him. They/we all have said that to ourselves and no one is ever able to do it. I decided right then that i didnt want to be like some of the other ppl on here who had worked for 10,15,or 20 years always talking about taking weekends off. NOT ME!

Come on guys, this is OUR LIFE. Who on thier death bed ever says that they wished that they had spent more time at the office? People need to make the decision to be normal and ONLY WORK on M-F. I absolutly LOVE mowing, but i keep it M-F. HEck, even my lawn is done on friday so i dont mow on weekends. Do you want to answer some newbies question on these here forums in 3 or 5 years and say that "This year i am going to TRY and take weekends off."?

When i made the decisions NO ONE had any complaints. We tell the customers when we can do thier lawn, how much, and so forth. Why do we then give up our weekends, family, and fun time for them? Is the money THAT all important to you? Does it consume you so that you cant say "no thanks, i have plans this weekend for my day off.'

Has any one heard the song Busy Man? It is about a man who is constantly having to turn away from his family to work cause he is a "busy man". In the end he tells his boss he cant work that weekend cause he is gonna be with his family cause he is a busy man. Or what about that song by Harry Chapin, Cats in the Cradle. The first half of the song the kid is trying to get INTO the dads life. The second half the dad is trying to get INTO the sons life. Your kids are only around for so long. When they are kids alls they want is your attention. Not the pat on the head and kiss good night. They want a dad (Or mom as it pertains to members here). As they grow up and get more independant they will not need you as much. This is one of the coolest times with kids. This is when they have intellegent thoughts and can be so influenced. Be there for your kids and enjoy them. Once they are gone you will wish you could have spent more time with them. You will complain that they dont visit enough and so on and so forth when you get older. They will do to you as you did to them. DOnt forget that!

LOVE YOUR KIDS AND SPEND TIME WITH THEM!

Ooops, didnt realize i was standing up here on this soap box. sorry.

Hello Everybody:

Monday thru Friday only, yes I know you might have to work on Saturday if rain, there is not much you can do about it. Except keep Friday as a extra work day & hope for the best.

But if you can't make it in those 5 days except for rain well you might need to look at your operation a little more & figure out how to make more money in less time. Maybe add some profitable work to your operation? Reduce your living standards, if you work all the time you do not have much of a life & what does your family do while your being a working class hero? I've been there & done that. I'm speaking from a voice of experience. I almost lost a real nice family because of the all mighty dollar & it's not worth it. It's not how much you make, it's what you do with it?

Most self employed people can live far better on $35K a year than non self employed does making $50K a year minimum. That's a fact, I had a guy come into my shop several months ago to fill out a credit application so he could buy a $550 Snapper. His income was $180,000 a year, I thought he was lying & when they verified his credit application he did make that much. Go Figure that one out?

There are plenty of people out there that make $35,000 a year & live in $250,000 homes & have 4 vehicles.

There are plenty of people that make a $100,000 a year & can barely afford a house trailer, I have a friend like that & he thinks I'm rich. When I tell him that yes I average about $35,000 a year he thinks Im lying to him?

I concentrate on my home & make it as nice as possible, if I need humoring I walk around my property or go out in my boat on my lake. My home is my castle, I don't have to go somewhere else & pay for cheap entertainment. LOL, I do go now & then to the Strip clubs to have fun. Tall Natural Blondes are my weakness, LOL ask my wife?

The boy with the most toys & done the most is not the winner always. It's the boy that has the most people show up at his funeral that's the real winner & that's my thoughts on life!

Money is very easy to get, but to have & get old with your original family is priceless. LOL, I've been married 26 1/2 years & the only thing I worry about is will it continue to rain after Easter & the well being of my family.

This is gonna throw ya, but here goes. I work 7 am to 11 pm almost every mon-sat from May-Sept. March,April, Oct. and Nov. are more like 7am to 8pm. Sunday is a lite day 11am to 8pm. Comes up to something like 2800 hrs. in 9 months. The big thing is I do not work in the winter. I take 3 months off completely. Now I know what you are thinking, well I also am counting the time at the desk doing paperwork and maintence on machinery. I have at least 2 of every machine I own, but if one breaks I go get or order the parts and I fix it that night so I know I have backups. This is a schedule I have kept for the last 20 years. I am tired of the season by the time October gets here, but by the march rolls around I am itching to get back at it. Take care and have a safe season.

Monday thru Friday. Hours are however many needed to give me the bottom line I need. No work on weekends if I can possibly get around it. I could be making more $$ but I like my work and lifestyle just the way it is.

M-F 7a to whenever we get done...Usually by 5p...Then I do paperwork and whatever maintenance is required...That's usually another 1-2 hrs...Saturdays are make-up days and sometimes I do some oddjobs...I've never worked on a Sunday so far...I'm going to try to cut back on my weekend work so that I can play more golf...Derrick

This is my first year full time at this. I'm going to try and leave Mondays open for make up work (or 3 day weekends). With residential, most people want the yard to look nice for the weekend. At this point, that's what most of my work is. I have 3 kids and another on the way any day...that's what's most important to me...spending as much free time as possible with the family.

just my thoughts.

Monday-Thursday 6:00am-4:30pm April-October. Friday, catch up day. No Saturday or Sundays. I agree with acute lawn, we mow in the rain or shine. No choice here in the Northwest. I called my crew tonight and told them to prepare for rain Monday morning because it is suppose to rain till Wednesday. We are like the postman, rain or shine we always do are mowings. If I waited for a dry day to mow I would go broke.

GrassMaster summed it all up. But as for me, I'm a workaholic from April to October. I work from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, 6 days a week. Of course, usually 2 of those days is spent in the shop, doing repairs, oil changes, and the like, but never the less, its still work. I try to keep 2 days clear for the rain days. There's alot of guys in the area that book six 12 hour days and find out that when it rains, they get behind, which is bad for them, but great for me, cuz they usually want to sub out some work to me. My wife gets upset sometimes, but she knows that I'm in the process of expanding, and she understands that during the mowing season, all my energy goes to the business. Trust me, from January to October, I dream, breathe, and live for the business. I'm pumped right now.
